A 500 level student of the Estate Management Department, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, in the University of Lagos, identified as Odusami Ajibola Matthew, was playing football with some of his friends on Friday July 8, 2016 at Biobaku hostel, when he slumped. He was rushed to the school’s medical centre where he was confirmed dead.
According to a report by Punch, Matthew decided to play football with some of his friends on the said day. He had stopped playing and he was on the side-line when he complained of his head being stiff and he could not feel anything again, after which he slumped and died.
According to his friend who is still in shock over the death, Matthew who had a strong second class upper grade did not show any sign ill health.
Another friend who described him as a calm, reserved, intelligent and cool guy said, “I was so shocked and confused, I asked why it has to be Jibola repeatedly.”
He went further to say, “God’s only knows why he decided to take Jibola now..Jibola may your soul continue to rest in the Bossom of the Lord.. R.I.P @Jibostop.”.
A communique released by the Secretary of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences Students Association (FESSA) reads:
“We regret to announce the sudden demise of our colleague, brother, course mate, Odusami Ajibola Matthew, 500L student of the department of Estate Management, Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
“Though he was at the Faculty as well as sport centre yesterday, his death is a big shock to us and we will always remember him.
“We pray his gentle soul rests in perfect peace. We love you.
The authorities of UNILAG have confirmed the incident and have broken the news to his family.
Deputy Registrar and Head of Information Unit, University of Lagos, Mr. Toyin Adebule in an interview with Punch said, “Our prayers are with them that God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”
