Femi Otedola, on Wednesday, July 11, at the triple book launch of Dele Momodu, revealed how Peter Igbinedion walked him out of his house as he pleaded with Ibrahim Abacha to tell his father (General Sani Abacha) to release the winner of June 12, 1993 elections, Bashorun MKO Abiola.
Otedola had been moved, following the harrowing image of Abiola in a Black Maria like a common criminal, to reach out to his friend, Ibrahim Abacha.
So as soon as he did, Ibrahim told him to come to Peter Igbinedion’s house for the meeting sometime in 1994.
Otedola narrated on Wednesday, July 11, 2018:
A sad reminder of his arrest in 1994 was the picture of him alighting from a ‘Black Maria.’ Upon seeing this, I called Ibrahim Abacha and requested to see him. We met at the South-West Ikoyi residence of Mr. Peter Igbinedion, the then MD of FAAN.
I told Ibrahim to tell his dad to release MKO as it was not fair that a man who was being denied his mandate be so humiliated by being put in a ‘Black Maria’ to which our host, Peter, interjected by saying, “Who is this?” and he swiftly walked to the door, holding it open and walked me out of his residence.
I later ran into Mr. Igbinedion at Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s London residence in 2013 and he was begging for my number. How tables have turned!
