According to a new survey conducted by YouGov, one in three women in Britain have suffered domestic violence.
The poll, though, suggested there was an increased awareness of the crime among women, it frustratingly remains a hidden problem as a third of victims (35%) had kept it a secret from friends and family. Findings showed that of the victims who had revealed the abuse, nearly half (43%), thought it was not serious enough to involve other people, another third thought it was a private matter, while 14 percent thought their partner’s behaviour was a normal part of the relationship.
The National women’s charity Refuge-commissioned poll defined domestic violence as an incident of threatening behaviour, violence or emotional abuse.
