Aftermath of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education fire out break: ‘What ‎we lost to the inferno’, Afiz Oyetoro

On Wednesday, 19 March, 2014, the Theatre Department of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Otto Awori Local Government, where popular comic actor, Afiz Oyetoro lectures, was raised down by fire.

However, the cause of the fire was not ascertained as by next morning, and properties and personal effects were damaged.

ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke to the talented actor about the incident, what he lost to the incident and more…

How did it happen?

Only God knows, I don’t know myself. We had closed at work that day and all gone home, only to come back the next day to meet shambles. Everything took place ‎in the night. The department was razed down.

Where exactly was affected?

The entire department, seven offices, lecture rooms, audio visual studio.

Why didn’t anybody raise an alarm, may be security guards or students on campus?

Nobody could raise the alarm because they were not aware. Students don’t live on campus. Lecturers and staff stay on campus but their quarters are quite far from the department.

What were the things you lost to the inferno?

Documents, awards and personal effects. I lost a lot. The school also lost a lot too, offices, lecture halls, audio visual studio, a lot of equipments.

Was there any casualty?

We thank God for that, there was no casualty. We thank God for life, when there is life, there is hope.
