A family has welcomed its first baby girl in a century (that’s 100 years) after 16 successive boys stretching back to the year 1913.
The Silverton clan had been starved of a female baby – defying odds of 10,000-1; expectedly, they marked the birth of little Poppy to 43-year-old Jeremy Silverton and partner, Danielle Andrews (36), with extra fanfare.
16 boys had been born into the family since the last female, Jessie Silverton, who was born 101 years ago; the chain was, however, broken by Poppy on September 9. She arrived at 8.45pm at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital weighing just a little over a healthy 8lb.
