‘It’s reward of patience’ -DR. SID
This is definitely one of the happiest moments for the talented singer, Sidney Onoriode Esiri, famously known as Dr. Sid. With Surulere rocking the airwaves, he was announced as brand ambassador for MTN.
Unlike other newly endorsed artistes, Dr. Sid’s announcement was quite unique. It was a special birthday gift for the Surulere crooner, who tweeted on Thursday, May 1, confirming the deal.
“Big shoutouts to MTN for the early birthday present. I am honoured to be an MTN ambassador. Yhello!”, the tweet reads.
The singer will now join other label mate, Don Jazzy, D’Prince and of course, Tiwa Savage, as ambassadors for MTN.
In a chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly, son of the late veteran actor, Justus Esiri was excited that the good news came at a time he was planning a birthday for fans.
He said, “I feel honoured. I feel blessed. It shows that my suru has lere – it’s rewarding to be patient – (smiles). Honestly, it shows that some people somewhere appreciate my work, what I am doing. I am very grateful to God. Thank you, MTN for considering me worthy of this.”
The gifted songwriter did not only pop champagne with friends and fans who honoured him the following day (Friday, May 2) at the Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria-Island, Lagos, he had an exciting time with them. Some of the fans were elated to join him to mark his 34th birthday.
On Sunday, December 8, 2013, the Delta born music star and his sweetheart, Simi Osomo had their traditional marriage, which was secretly held at the bride’s family house at Ikoyi, Lagos. The white wedding is expected to hold before the end of the year.

How does it feel being an MTN Ambassador?
Words are not enough to express how happy and honoured I feel right now. It is all about working and getting paid in return. I’m excited.
How were you contacted?
There was no special way in getting contacted because I have been with MTN for a while now. By that I mean, going on tours, shows, concerts and many more. Basically, I would say the response from my fans got me the deal and I’m happy and appreciate them a lot.
How much is the deal worth and for how long?
I really don’t like discussing figures – but very soon you will know how much I pocketed from the deal. The deal is to last one year.
Being an MTN Ambassador, what do you think is expected of you?
The basic thing expected of me is to represent the brand very well, be a voice for the brand and also to use my power as an ambassador and music artiste to bring more people to join the network.
What do you think gave you an edge over celebrities?
I usually don’t like to blow my trumpet, I believe everyone has his or her own unique qualities. So, I guess my hard work gave me an edge, including the voice of my fans.
