Ebola: US to send 3,000 troops to West Africa

The United States of America (USA) is sending thousands of military troops to West Africa to co-ordinate the response to the Ebola outbreak which has claimed more than 2,200 lives this year, the White House said yesterday (September 16) night.

A statement from the White House press office read: ‘U.S. Africa Command will set up a Joint Force Command headquartered in Monrovia, Liberia, to provide regional command and control support to U.S. military activities and facilitate coordination with U.S. government and international relief efforts’.

The US will attempt to train 500 medical staff a week, provide health kits to hundreds of thousands of homes and educate communities on how to tackle the problem.
