FORMER BBA WINNER, KAREN IGHO NARRATES HER ORDEAL WITH ARMED ROBBERS

MULTI-talented ex-Big Brother Africa reality show winner, Karen Igho has everything to be thankful to God for.  She was robbed on Sunday, September 1, 2013, on her way from a friend’s welcome party.  ENCOMIUM Weekly had a chat with her about her experience…

How would you describe the robbery experience?

I have never been robbed before.  I was shocked and traumatized.  I am glad that I was not injured.

So, how did it happen?

A friend came back from the United Kingdom, so we decided to throw a party at Elegushi Beach, Lekki, Lagos for her.  After the party, we were going home in a convoy, we were not too far from the beach when it happened.  They stopped us and told us to come down from the car.  Immediately I came out, they recognized me and started hailing me.  They said, ‘Are you not the one that just came from Big Brother Africa?  You must have a lot of money on you.’   I had to tell them that it had been long I won Big Brother, that they should please not injure us.  We were told that they were not interested in that, they only wanted our belongings.  We gave them what we had on us.  They took the Range Rover we were driving in, but thank God, it had security.  So, it stopped on the road.  We were able to recover it.

When I got home, I had to go on Twitter to thank God for our safety.  The fact that I was recognized and not injured, was something to thank God.

What are the valuables they made away with?

Jewelry, phones, cash we had on us, then the Range Rover but it was recovered.

What was the next step, did you report to the police?

Report to police ke, how will they catch phone thieves?  Thank God we recovered the jeep immediately.  That would have been the issue.  Yes, police are our friends but I don’t think there is any need to do that.

What are the lessons you learnt from the incident?

In fact, that is why I am talking about it so that people can learn.  Don’t ever argue with thieves.  When you are in a compromising position, just give them what they want.  Your life is more valuable than the things they will collect from you.  Listen to them and give them your valuables. It is better to be alive.  People should also put security in their cars.  There is something called tracker, it is better to have it on your car so that you can recover it in case of any robbery.
