The internet is awash with disagreements as Time magazine named United States of America’s President-elect Donald Trump as its ‘Person of the Year’ for 2016. The usually controversial honour has again attracted divergent views.
And here are some of them.

So #Trump has been named #Time magazine’s #ManoftheYear. Should point out that Hitler and Stalin both received the same honour.
— Sean Ayres (@SeanAyres5) December 7, 2016
@ShaunKing #Trump fans whining about this history lesson. They refuse to acknowledge he also is an egotistical demagogue. #ManoftheYear

Remember when #Trump told #MI he’d been #ManOfTheYear ? That’s reference to knowing vote would be hacked. See film w/same title.

— Dr. DaShanne Stokes (@DaShanneStokes) December 7, 2016
I guess anyone can be person of the year ????
— blitzen maria (@jaggamari) December 7, 2016
@TIME Why give an egotistical narcissist clout by featuring him as person of the year?
— bbuckner (@bucknerbrandon) December 7, 2016
It could be a honor to be chosen PERSON OF THE YEAR. Consider other recipients. Ie HITLER, STALEN #notmypresident

#Trump is this year’s Time Person of the Year. Remember, it’s not an award. It’s an indication of someone who had an impact.
— PolitiSquirrel (@PolitiSquirrel) December 7, 2016
So, @realDonaldTrump is TIME person of the year. Let’s see, who else was TIME person of the year? Oh, right, Adolf Hitler.
— Eddie Perkins (@Epers) December 7, 2016
Times Person of the Year is not a thumbs up; it acknowledges their contribution to the zeitgeist, as can be seen by the byline. https://t.co/aiOfu4fScx
— Tom (@tjerubbaal) December 7, 2016
Since 1929, only 5 women have been selected as Person of the Year by Time … I’d like to see who votes on these ‘selections’. #America
— David Stuckey (@stuckeywriter) December 7, 2016
Time Person of the Year isn’t always an honor. Being influential doesn’t always mean it’s a positive influence. https://t.co/b0R3N9cF58

Time magazine aiming for irrelevance with cheap tactic.

— ????Chemistree (@DivingInTooDeep) December 7, 2016
@_JaceX we were talking about Trump when people mentioned Obama also being a person of the year. So I believe it’s still on topic pal.
— bignasty75 (@kernstephen24) December 7, 2016
.@Randdand It’s nice when the Person of the Year is a positive force in the world. But that’s not what it’s about. This year it’s a fascist.
— Jonny’s in America (@RezOKC) December 7, 2016
Think @TIME would’ve given Trump Person of the Year title even if Hillary had won for “being the most talked about” or something like that.
— DV (@matchpointmiss) December 7, 2016
I’m declaring myself Time’s Person of the Year for putting up with all of 2016’s bullshit. #personoftheyear #TimePersonoftheYear

Time Mag’s Person of the Year is about who has been the biggest influence during the year; it’s not an endorsement of what they stand for.
