GCSE: Pass rate falls for second year in a row

Figures from the recently-released results of the British General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exams show, alarmingly, a decline in the overall pass rate, for the second year running.

This is amid concerns that changes to the exam system, implemented by the Education Secretary, Michael Gove, would hit results.

According to figures published by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), the proportion of entries awarded the highest grade fell slightly, with 6.7% gaining an A*, down from 6.8% last year, also the A*-G pass rate is down 0.3 percentage points to 98.5% from 98.8% in 2013.
