Historic! Three-storey building moved on wheels to new site

A historic three-storey townhouse in the United States of America has been moved to a new site after being placed on a steel under-carriage.

The 112-year-old building on New York Avenue in Washington D.C. was located on the site of a planned 13-storey hotel, but was deemed worthy of preservation.

Structural specialists – Expert House Movers – started bricking up the windows in April this year, before lifting the entire three-storey building on to a wheeled platform.

The townhouse was the home of Dr. Thomas Martin – one of the longest-serving doctors in the racially mixed Didcot area of the city. He died in 1939.
