The Ogun State Government has so far distributed no fewer than 12,000 Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) and other titled documents to residents under the Homeowners’ Charter, an initiative of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration.
Presenting the documents to another batch of beneficiaries yesterday, the Head of Service, Mr. Abayomi Sobande, who represented the governor at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, assured that government would not relent in ensuring the success of the scheme, despite the challenges.
The governor however warned applicants not to fall to the antics of fraudsters, who under the disguise of helping them, extort money.
He said the government has put measures in place to serve them better.
Speaking with journalists after the event, over allegations of irregularities in the process, Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun, said government would not encourage such, enjoining applicants to report anyone, who illegally demand any money to the appropriate authorities.
Sokefun, who advised the applicants not to give bribe, under any guise, urged those whose applications have not been processed, to exercise patience, adding that all applications would be approved and handed over to beneficiaries, before the end of the tenure of the Amosun government.
In his welcome address, Chairman, Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Kunle Adeosun thanked the people for believing in the programme, adding that although, the road may be rough, those entitled to the documents, would be duly presented.
Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Wale Osinowo, had earlier in a statement, advised that people should double check their facts, before making it public, so as to avoid a situation, where three applicants, reported by a national newspaper, complained that their applications could not be traced in the Data Base of the scheme.
He therefore solicited for the support of all stakeholders, towards ensuring that the good people of Ogun State will continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
He expressed optimism that applicants, yet to receive their documents, would soon obtain them and thereafter, become “real homeowners.”
