Kollington carpets Obesere over Alhaji Agba title: ‘It’s wishful thinking’

Fuji maestro, Alhaji Rasak Kolawole Ilori Ayinla, popularly addressed as Kollington, has reacted to the ongoing war in fuji circle over the title of Alhaji Agba of the genre which famous act, Alhaji Abass Akande (Obesere) has claimed. He added that the Asakasa crooner is free to wish himself anything that pleases him.

Speaking with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Sunday, September 27, 2015, the Ilota, Kwara born musician said the issue is trivial, and he can’t dissipate energy on it at the moment as every fuji fan knows who is Alhaji Agba in the house.

“Obesere said he is now Alhaji Agba. He has the right to give himself any name or title he likes. After all, you can bear any name you like outside your domain. But, I think everybody knows who is Alhaji Agba.

“Anyway, that’s a non-issue and I don’t think I can be wasting energy, talking on that.”

Another fuji act who preferred his name not to be mentioned also slammed Obesere on the title. He even vowed not to attend the party scheduled to hold soon in respect of that.

“Obesere likes controversy. He did that deliberately to stir controversy in the genre. May be he felt fuji atmosphere is too quiet now, and he must heat up the system. That’s the reason I think he called himself Alhaji Agba. If not, where will he put Kollington and K1? Or he thinks it’s a family title because late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister was from Ibadan where he also hails from, so he should be the next Alhaji Agba after Barrister’s death.

“Even, if the next Alhaji should also come from Ibadan, it couldn’t have been Obesere’s turn because there are many fuji artistes far older than him in Ibadan. So, I think he is just trying to make unnecessary noise.”

However, another fuji act who also spoke to ENCOMIUM Weekly on the condition of anonymity identified with Omo rapala as Obesere is also known. He even congratulated the Paramount King of music while he also enjoined his colleagues to celebrate the fuji icon.

“There is nothing wrong with the title. Anybody can be Alhaji Agba if he so merits it. Obesere deserved it that’s why some fuji fans installed him Alhaji Agba of fuji. It has nothing to do with age at all.

“We don’t need to argue or debate it at all. It’s just a title, and the best thing for all of us in the fuji circle is to celebrate Obesere. I learnt he is warming up for the elaborate celebration of the title, I will be there to honour him. I congratulate him.”
