In a baffling twist of wildlife events, scientists from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) who regularly monitor wildlife on Marion Island (South Africa) for rare and unusual behaviour have spotted seals attempting to have sex with king penguins.
On a remote island in the Indian Ocean, the large mammals have been recorded on at least four occasions forcing the birds to the ground and attempting to mate with them.
On three of the incidents, the large mammals let the penguin go – but following one attack, the seal killed the penguin and ate it.
