More children in Britain are going to school hungry as parents can’t afford breakfast – survey claims

More children are going to school hungry in Britain as their parents can’t afford to provide them breakfast, according to a poll of almost 900 primary and secondary school teachers.

The survey revealed that the number of struggling families sending their children to school hungry increased over the past year with students turning up for school without having had breakfast and therefore struggle to learn.

Some 38 percent of teachers said they saw children arriving at school hungry every day. School staff said the number of children who arrive hungry has increased compared to this time a year ago, while just two per cent said the figure had decreased.
