‘My online radio gives me fulfillment,’ says DJ Gosporella

ON Friday, October 10, 2014, DJ Gosporella officially launched his online radio station, Gosporella FM.  The event was well attended by celebrities and friends of the artiste.

ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke with him on the success of the event…

How does it feel launching Gosporella FM?

Gosporella FM has just entered another phase.  The hype I got from all these is when I tune to the station and I hear them say Gosporella FM.  It gives me fulfillment.  I know if we do it well, it will stay forever and that is what we intend to do.  People tend to look down on the station because it is operating online but I have always said, if you do whatever God asked you to do well, you will discover you are in a hole and the light will shine unto you in that hole because promotion does not come from the east or the west but from God.  I am happy that Gosporella FM is here, although we are still growing but we are expecting that everybody will join hands with this ‘baby’ and use it as a yardstick to measure what online radio station should be.

What are your expectations?

What you give is what you get.  We intend to broadcast the best.  The station is basically music driven, using my background as a DJ and our mission is “to entrench Christianity as a lifestyle” not just a Sunday-Sunday medicine.  We have learnt the art of mixing different genres of music to give you a feel that you are on the dance floor.  If you have a party in the afternoon or in the office and you want to listen to good and uplifting gospel music, tune in to Gosporella FM and to do that, just type www.gosporella.fm.  We are available for all media devices.  We intend to promote Nigerian gospel music and to report news both within and outside the country.  We will talk about sports, marriages and things that people would not ordinarily like to talk about but are very important as it affects our daily life.  We have sown and expecting to reap good harvest.

Being strictly online and gospel radio station, what are the challenges?

Every business has its own challenges.  At first, we had issues with the internet but now we are faced with power supply.  By the grace of God we have been able to tackle both issues.  In pursuit of excellence and manpower will also tend to be a problem, we have trained some of our staff but unfortunately they left after three months.  We still have some that are under training and are doing very well.

How much did it gulp?

I can’t tell you figures because if I mention how much was spent, some people will scream because they feel since it is an online radio, all you need is just the internet, laptop and a microphone but that is not what we are doing or what we have.  Gosporella FM was set up with all its necessary equipment that is, what a standard radio station must have.

How do you intend to recoup all the money invested?

There is a Biblical law that, ‘what you sow, you must reap’.  But that does not mean I should fold my arms and do nothing. I am doing a lot of publicity and hoping a lot of people will tune in.  We are coming up with a live stream broadcast whereby once you come into the studio you are seen all over the world.  Our SMS code is going to fetch us money.  When you call in during the programme, it will fetch us money as well.  So, we are trying to make this easy.

What else should people expect from you?

Expect more music, lifestyle, a brand new flavour in your ears.  The way we will present our music is different from how others will do their thing because we are professionals in that area.  We understand what gospel music should be and we have an understanding of where to pick our music because it is about the ‘message’ and not the ‘container.’ We are a good news radio station that is why we say, we are your number one family radio station.
