‘No controversy in my conferment as OOU music professor,’ says Ebenezer Obey

FORMER veteran evergreen Juju maestro and General Overseer, Decross Church, Papa Ashafa, Orile Agege, Lagos, Evangelist Ebenezer Fabiyi Obey has rubbished social media report that his new conferment as Professor of Music by Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State is controversial, allegedly on lack of a music department in the institution.  He added that the publication lacks merit as there is no iota of truth in it.
He, however, expressed joy and appreciation over the new honour and the appointment attached to it as a music lecturer.  “There is nothing like controversy in my conferment as music professor and appointment as music lecturer by Olabisi Onabanjo University.  I never heard that.”
Asked how he feels about the offer and honour, he reacted, “It’s a good thing.  I appreciate it.  And I thank God for that.  But I can’t talk much on that now because I am travelling out of the country tomorrow.  Maybe when I come back, I will grant you a full interview on everything.  Thank you.”
On Monday, July 11, 2014, Evangelist Obey was conferred the honour of Professor of Music by Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.  The event held at Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall at the university’s main campus in Ago-Iwoye had in attendance prominent sons and daughters of Ogun State, including the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Osile Oke Ona, Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, among others.
With the new honour and appointment, however, the renowned entertainer and preacher of the Word is expected to be a visiting professor in the Department of English and Performing Arts of the school.  Not only that, he is also saddled with the responsibility of lecturing students of music.
