Dynamic singing duo, Kehinde and Taiye Oyelhunnu, otherwise known as X Change Twins are set to storm the Nigerian music scene.
The talented identical twin brothers, who are currently enjoying the best of their career, spoke with ENCOMIUM Weekly’s Michael Nwokike in an exclusive chat.
They spoke on issues ranging from their music, individual nature, what the future holds and why nothing can split them.
What has your music journey been like?
Wow! It’s been very challenging but the process of the challenges is much more interesting than the success we are seeing now, because it makes us understand the music business. That is the most important thing to keep you sustained in the business.
What would you say has been the high point of your career so far?
X Change Twins, as a brand is now being recognized and accepted in the music industry. More so, we have a new single entitled Presidential produced by Vitek, who produced P Square’s Personally. The song has earned us so many shows and platforms, like Miss Global beauty pageant, City People’s Ankara Fashion Show, Star Trek, Music Festival in The Gambia and many churches in Lagos and outside Lagos. Right now, the month of August is fully booked and other months are filled with a lot of prospects.
When should we expect an album release?
We can’t give a date for the album release, because right now, we have songs that are competing for space on the album as well as rebranding. However the case may be, well keep you posted.
What are the latest projects you are working on?
Now, we are working on the Presidential video. We are also working on two more singles entitled Baba pe o and Byside. We are working with notable Nigerian producers who can interpret our expressions into organic sound. Trust me, these songs are even hotter than presidential.
How many official singles do you have?
We have Ore with an official video, Satisfy and Presidential that are making crazy waves on air at the moment.
What do you think makes you unique as musicians?
First, our intrusive style of songs. Our dressing is unique, and also our intriguing stage performances. All these also define us as 2klassiq. That’s why at times they call us 2klassiq. So, we are X-Change, a.k.a. 2klassiq.
So, you think all these will be enough to push your career further?
Yes, of course. It has already been yielding results and it’s really working for us
A little away from music, tell us about yourselves.
(Laughs). That’s really an interesting part you want to go into. Ok, apart from doing music together, we do every other business together. We don’t like wearing the same outfit because we can’t stand attention of people.
We only wear the same outfit when we are going for performance. We think alike. We like playing lawn tennis. We don’t walk together if we are not going for event or performance. We love to stay in separate houses because we love privacy. Strange, right? But that’s us for you. We only do that when we go for music events. It’s part of our branding. But for events outside music, we wear something different.
Me (Kehinde), I’m very open. But Taiwo is reserved. But that is not to say he is not free. It’s just that I’m (Kehinde) quick to say my mind over issues than him (Taiwo). Kenny is more open hearted. I will tell you my mind and it ends there.
What is your typical day like, when you are not doing music?
When I’m (Kehinde) not doing music, I relax by coaching and playing tennis.
We both actually do that, but at separate times. We also go to the movies, hang out with friends. We also relax at the beach.
Who comes up with the melody of your songs?
The song can come from any of us. I mean, the melody. So, we start building on it.
How about the ladies? Who gets more ladies, Kenny or Taiwo?
That is hard to tell o. We don’t really give ladies that much attention because we are very focused on our music now.
Still on the ladies, while you were growing, did you at any point have a quarrel over ladies?
Haa, not at all. Just only in the university that Taiwo’s girlfriend used to mistake me for him. After I received a slap, I had to reveal myself each time she saw me.
Is it likely that both of you will get married on the same day?
Haa. Not sure about that sha. Because na God dey fix time for marriage o. If God arranges it like that, no problem.
What do you think can ever make you split?
Nothing ooo! Ooh ok, except death.
Not even money or women or fame?
That’s nothing! That’s too small now.
You always look glam on the red carpet. Tell us more about your fashion style.
Wow! We love fashion a lot and it shows in our outfits, shoes and our songs. We used to be models. We later started our own fashion shows. I believe that’s where the glamorous look on the red carpet comes from.
What plans do you have for the rest of the year music-wise?
Hopefully, to shoot an international video for our latest single, Presidential and recording of two more singles that will be hotter than Presidential.
Where do you see your music in five years?
This is simple. We see our music on the international chart and winning international awards.
We want to take our career international, exporting our songs; which will avail us the opportunity to collaborate with international stars.
There are many artistes in the industry, how do you plan to remain relevant in the coming years?
With our brand, our intriguing style of songs, constant promotions and appearances in the media. Above all, with God’s help. Trust me; we will remain more than relevant in years to come. It’s all about being consistent and innovative.
Finally, what should your fans expect from you?
We want to say to all our fans just watch out for X Change Twins. The best of music is yet to come from us. You will not be disappointed. We have a lot in store.
