Obese mothers at higher risk of losing their babies after birth, study claims

Babies born to over-weight and obese mothers (30 or more Body Mass Index, BMI) are at a higher risk of dying soon after being born, a new research has warned.

The risk of the baby dying rises in proportion to the weight of the mother as the such babies are more than twice more likely to die.

The scientists, who conducted the study, analysed more than 1.8 million births in Sweden over 18 years (1992 and 2010) and found that infants whose mothers were overweight or obese were being endangered, with 11 percent dying due to maternal overweight and obesity.
