‘One secret of success is willingness to step on toes’ – Chidi Anyaegbu, MFR

CHIEF Chidi Anyaegbu, MFR, is the shrewd and savvy gentleman behind Chisco Group, a far distance transportation and road haulage company which has subsidiaries in oil and gas, finance, hospitality, real estate, import and export.  He told ENCOMIUM Weekly what it takes to run a company as his.  The honourable business mogul also told us how to create wealth and sustain it when we met him recently.

What does it take to run a company as yours?

It’s by the grace of God. If not, it would be difficult, judging from the environment in which we operate. The way things are in the country makes it stressful.  It’s just like someone who does not have money because to him the ability to make money is a lot of stress.

What are the major challenges you encounter in running your business?

They are bad roads, lack of security, instability of government policies and no protection of indigenous companies or businesses.

What do you enjoy most about running a business like yours?

I only enjoy it when I am able to pay my workers’ salaries and also pay my dues.

What would you say are the best and legitimate means of making money and acquire wealth?

You’ve got to be creative.  You should choose what you want to do in life.  It is not everybody that is meant to acquire wealth.  Some people can acquire knowledge with which they would make or help others to acquire wealth but they may not acquire it.  But they are rich. First, you have to define and find out what you are made for, for everybody is meant for something.  If you are made to acquire wealth, God will give you the wisdom to acquire that wealth.  And part of the wisdom is for you to know what you are created for and go in for it. Be hard working and creative.

What are the ways to safeguard a hard earned wealth?

You have to be a strategic planner.  Study fund management and learn on it.  Make budget for everything you want to do.  You don’t have to do things because people are doing it or spend money because people are spending.  By doing this, you guard your wealth.

What would one do to ensure a steady income?

Be a reform manager.  You should learn to structure and understand your income.  When you’ve understood the dynamics of your earnings, you should know how to channel it or restructure it into something that will bring you more income.

What is the most interesting thing about being a successful person?

Success attracts a lot of things to itself.  It attracts lots of good and obedient followers.  Lack of success is like an orphan who is deserted.  Success brings you a lot of happiness.  Note, that you cannot be successful if you can’t step on people’s toes.  One of the secrets of success is the ability to step on people’s toes.  And you have to constantly know what you want. Even when challenged by obstacles, you should know how to manouerve the obstacles.  Most people fail because they do not know how to beat obstacles.

What was your greatest desire as a youth?

It’s just like your own desire.  Anytime you do something and you do it successfully and you discover you have done it successfully, you will be so happy with yourself.

How often do you socialize?

I am very social.  I don’t play with my free time.  I take holiday two times in a year and I love to play lawn tennis.

Do friends add or subtract from your life?

I don’t make friends that don’t add anything to my life.

What is the major lesson life has taught you?

I come from a poor background and I hate poverty.  So, I worked very hard to get to where I am today. I was very creative and I got married to my God and my job.  And these were the two things that keep me happy.  Every other thing, apart from God and my work is partnership.
