Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke becomes OPEC’s first female president

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke has become the first female president of OPEC (the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) after she was elected Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the ongoing 166th General Meeting of the body in Vienna, Austria.
 
She replaces Libya’s Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish as president and is the first female to head the body in its 54-year history. Her one-year term begins immediately.
 
The woman of firsts – Diezani Allison-Madueke is also the first female Petroleum Minister, first woman to head a country delegation at the annual OPEC conference; first woman to be appointed to the board of Shell Petroleum Development Company and became the first female when she was appointed Minister of Transportation in 2007.
