Raul Castro declares detente with US won’t change Cuban system

Cuba’s President, Raul Castro has declared his readiness to discuss any topic with the United States (U.S.) after the bilateral rapprochement between the two nations, but warned that no major political changes would occur as a result.

Speaking at the close of the biannual meeting of the country’s parliament that he was ready, the leader of the Americas’ sole communist nation hailed the agreement for removing of an “obstacle” in US-Cuba relations; he, however, reiterated that “the most important thing, the end of the embargo” remained unresolved.

In his words: “In the same way that we have never suggested the United States change its political system, we will demand respect for ours”.
