Sanwo-Olu’s wife advocates for more tree planting in Lagos State

The wife of the Governor of Lagos State Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has advocated for more tree to be planted in Lagos state in order to ensure a cleaner,  greener and healthier environment in the state.

The Lagos First Lady made the call at the Year 2019 tree planting campaign exercise at the Oregun recreation park, saying that the campaign, themed “Clean and Green is Our Perfect Dream” is tailored to address the inadequacy in tree planting in the state.

 Mrs. Sanwo-Olu, represented at the event by Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, the wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, said the tree planting initiative is a strategy to combat the effects of climate change and global warming and ensure sustenance of healthy environment through tree planting for the general wellbeing of the citizenry.

She, therefore, enjoined individuals, corporate bodies and government at all levels to create an enabling environment for tree planting to thrive, stressing that “As we increase efforts towards ridding the State of waste, all hands must be on deck to improve the aesthetics of the environment by adorning it with ornamental plants, beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees”.

“We cannot keep ignoring climate change, which is presently the most significant risk to our future. It is also the world’s most devastating threat to human survival. We can no longer pretend that we have a society at ease with itself”, the First Lady asserted.

Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, Mrs. Folasade Fasehun urged every Lagosians to be alive to their responsibilities on the nagging issues of sanitation and greening.

According to her: “When we make it clean let us also make it green and when we make it green, we have to make it safer and healthier for the generality of our people. This is our perfect dream for a prosperous Lagos”.
