Sensational Whisky Debut Amidst Lavish Asian-inspired Affair!

Guess what happened last weekend?
If you’re guessing being whisked away on a celestial journey like no other, then you guessed right.

Last weekend, The Macallan introduced a limited edition whisky, A Night On Earth – The Journey, in Nigeria! Picture this: Victoria Island’s trendiest spot, Smokes and Barrels, being transformed into a scene out of the “Crazy Rich Asians” lavish party scene – luckily, there were no tussles, only culinary appreciation and whisky tasting amidst the glam affair.

The venue was adorned with Chinese-inspired decor, to emulate the Asian New Year with traditional folk music including elements of pentatonic scales and the guqin, a seven-stringed instrument winding down at the backdrop to set the theme of the night.

Now, let’s talk about the guest list — from business moguls to socialites, the soirée attracted the crème de la crème of Lagos’ elite. Think of your boss’s boss, tastemakers, and HNIs including the Founder, Lagos Jazz Series, Oti Bazunu; Chairman of Cradle Group Ltd, Gbenga Ademulegun; Managing Director MBC Capital, Kofo Majekodunmi, rubbing shoulders and raising a dram to the star-studded night sky.

But let’s get to the good stuff—the unveiling of the whisky! Imagine that exciting feeling of unboxing your Christmas presents, hidden in multiple layers of surprises — the packaging was a journey of its own. From a midnight sky filled with twinkling stars and a sun-kissed vista of majestic mountains, the experience was nothing short of magical. So if you’re thinking of the perfect gift for your IJGB friends  (aside from the regular boring Ankara-themed outfits) to remind them of the nostalgic feeling of home, seek no more.

Now, onto the tasting! Guests were led on a sensory adventure with expertly crafted blends that comprised distinct notes of toasted oak, zesty citrus, and creamy coconut milk pudding, every sip was a symphony of flavour. These were paired with the perfect gourmet meals –
