Short takes from Pearl Look 2014

The 2014 Pearl Look, a model and beauty queen hunt competition featured music, comedy, dance and red carpet attraction. The show held on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, will remain evergreen in the minds of guests for a long time because of the glamour, panache and class on display.

The show anchored by Kayla of 96.9 Cool FM and Big Brother Africa participant, Melvin Oduah began around 8pm. The introductory appearance saw the models strutting on the runaway for the first time in lovely designs after which music act, Myner mounted the stage to deliver a heartwarming performance.

The models returned on stage for the second appearance in their bikinis. There was a comedy interlude. The models returned on stage again as they paraded handbags made by Rouch. In their fourth appearance, the models shone brilliantly in a Frank Osodi’s lovely designs.

At this time, the seven contestants were called on stage and after the judges had assessed them, the top three were called and at the end 22 year old Obi Blessing Oghale won the beauty queen segment. After the beauty queen winner was announced, the 10 models, who participated in the model search were called to appear on stage. In the end, 19 year old Anthony Oluwabukola was declared the winner of 2014 Pearl Look Model.

MEET THE JUDGES

The judges for both the Pearl Look models and beauty queen were Reze Bonna, a celebrity photographer, Yvonne Nwosu, fashion designer and Jane Celiers, a director with Ice Models Management, South Africa.

THE DESIGNERS

The models and beauty queens paraded collections from Weiz Dhuru Franklyn, Rouch and Frank Osodi.

 WINNERS PRIZES

The winner of the Pearl Look Beauty Queen, Obi Blessing, walked away with N1 million, while the winner of Pearl Look Model Search, Anthony Oluwabukola smiled home with a contract worth N2.5 million with Ice Model Management, South Africa.

 

‘It is a dream come true’

– OBI BLESSING OGHALE, winner Pearl Look, beauty queen 2014

DSC_0450-001From Uyo Model Search 2012 to MBGN 2013 and Miss Nigeria 2013, Obi Blessing Oghale’s dream of becoming a beauty queen was realized on Saturday, March 1, 2014, when she was crowned Pearl Look Beauty Queen 2014. The 22 year-old dusted seven others to the crown at an event laced with music, dance and comedy.

The six footer Blessing walked away with N1 million. She shared her story.

 

How does it feel, were you expecting this?

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it but I knew something good was going to come out of it when I decided to participate. I am very happy to have won.

What would you say worked for you?

I would say it was the grace of God. My co-contestants were all good and gorgeous.

Was this the first time you were in a pageant?

It was my third time out. This is my first crown and I am very happy about it.

Which pageant have you participated?

In 2010, I went for Excursion Niger Delta. I was also at Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 2013. I won the award for Miss Photogenic, I represented Kano State.

Tell us about your background?

I am from Delta State, an undergraduate of Delta State University studying Political Science. I am in 300 level. I have three younger ones.

Which project are you going to embark upon during your reign?

I want to work with local government about education of the girl child, especially where I come from, the Niger Delta.

You are N1 million richer, what is your plan for the money?

I will pay my tithe then use the remaining for my project.

Tell us about your statistics?

I am 32, 24, 38.

Who were your friends in camp?

Everybody, Tracy, Oliver and all of them. I am really going to miss them, we were all like sisters. They were all nice.

 

‘I AM SHORT OF WORDS’

– Anthony Oluwabukola, winner Pearl Look 2014

DSC_0685Anthony Oluwabukola has been a popular face on the runway in the last three years. She has done jobs at Arise Fashion and other shows in recent times. She is the winner of the 2014 Pearl Look, a model search competition which has been running for two years now.

Oluwabukola, who is a Nigerian/Togolese, expressed how she felt after she was crowned the best model of the year.

 

Were you expecting this victory?

Not at all. I really thank God for this. I am so excited. I am short of words.

You have been modeling for some time now, what would you say worked for you?

I wouldn’t know, the judges must have seen something in me for them to have chosen me.

On stage, it appeared as if you wanted to collapse when you were pronounced the winner. What happened?

I wasn’t expecting it. I was shocked when my name was mentioned as the winner.

How are you going to make use of this platform?

I will improve my work and take care of my family. My people will be proud of me.

How long have you been modeling?

Three years now, my first show was Arise. I was in UK recently. I have done some other shows.

What will now happen that you are going to South Africa?

I will do more work and make my family proud.

Where are you from?

I am half Nigerian, half Togolese.

Tell us about your family?

They are not around, but they are all cool.

What about your school?

I am still seeking admission into the university.

How old are you?

I am 19.
