Social change advocates feature on Glo-powered African Voices

African Voices Changemakers, Cable News Network (CNN) magazine programme, this weekend celebrates the achievements of two change advocates.

Telecommunications company, Globacom, which sponsors the programme, disclosed that  the duo of  Kennedy Odede, a Kenyan  social entrepreneur and advocate for free education for slum dwellers   and Stephen Asante, a mental health and welfare campaigner will be live on the 30-minute broadcast.

Thirty seven-year-old Odede, is an award winning multi-linguist  who is well versed in  five languages aside the official English language spoken in his country. The Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) organization was founded by him for the purpose of providing  clean   water and healthcare  to slum dwellers  in Kenya where he also ensures the education of  girls as well as the empowerment of   small scale business people.

Odede resides in the United States of America where he is a Young Global Leader (YGL) at the World Economic Forum and an Obama Foundation Africa Leader.  A New York Times Bestselling author and winner of the 2010 Echoing Green Fellowship, he  was adjudged one of Forbes’ Under-30 Top Social Entrepreneurs in 2014.

Similarly, Asante plies his trade as a promoter of sufferers of   mental health challenges through an Accra, Ghana-based non-governmental organization known as the  Mental Health Advocacy Foundation.

This non-profit group enjoys the support of the  government of Ghana and local organisations  in the provision of care  for mental health patients and their loved ones. He  also  applies the foundation  to the eradication of the social stigma associated with mental challenges.

African Voices ChangeMakers will be on DSTV Channel 401 at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday, with repeat editions on  Saturday at 12 noon; on Sunday at 4.30 a.m., 7.30 a.m. and  7.30 p.m. and at 1.30 a.m. on Monday .
