TAIWO of OSHADIPE TWINS mum on the paternity of her baby

THE Oshadipe Twins, Taiwo and Kehinde have come of age.  They started singing at a very tender age under the tutelage of some great Nigerian music legends like late Sonny Okosuns.  Later Captain George became their mentor and along the line, Taiwo got pregnant out of wedlock and now has a baby boy. In this interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly, the young mother kept sealed lips on the paternity of the baby, choosing to concentrate on her music career and more.

It’s been a while, what are you working on now?

We have a new single currently making wave entitled, Iyanu (Miracle).  A lot of our fans and friends have been demanding what we have in stock.  They are very eager to hear from us.

What informed the song, Iyanu?

It was a testimony of the goodness of God over our lives.  It shows that our efforts were not in vain.  We see our success as a miracle and use this as a point of contact to people out there believing on God for a miracle.  It is dedicated as a vehicle of encouragement for troubled lives.

We learnt you have been signed on Wale Adenuga’s WAP Records?

I can’t really delve into the details but it was a new deal which is quite rewarding.

You actually went into acting and we thought you have abandoned your music career?

We actually joined the industry through Super Story under Wale Adenuga.  We thought we would be the next big thing in Nollywood after the soap but it wasn’t so.  A lot of our fans complimented our roles but we were shocked when the scripts didn’t roll in.

What would you say has kept you on till date?

I would simply say God.  Our beginning was rough.  When we hit limelight people still wanted to see us as the young Oshadipe they knew.  They failed to realize that we have grown and so our music.  We have experienced a lot of discouraging scenarios like people demanding N50,000 before they can play our song.  I don’t care about the money but the fact is we don’t have such luxury.  Most people are not willing to help freely. Thus, aside God, our fans have been the secret of our success.  We have a huge fan base who have been our pillar of support.

What are some of the lessons life has taught you?

We have learnt never to look down on people.  You never know what the future holds.  Life has taught us to love and follow peace with everybody.

We heard you are romancing so many political godfathers who are the pillars behind your success?

The gift of a man will make a way for him and enable him to sit with kings.  That we have favour with some politicians, I can’t deny.  It’s just that they have seen our performances and they fell in love with it.  They discovered we have raw talents and decided to encourage us.  It’s not beyond that.  At times, we would perform at a function where a governor has been invited.  We would do our thing and he would appreciate us and invite us to an occasion.  Also, the fact that we are twins is a plus.  If we decide to visit the president today, even if we didn’t see him that day, we would definitely pick an appointment.  Being twins is a passport.  There is no basis in all the allegations being spread about.  After the Super Story, the first lady of our state, Ondo invited us over and we were honoured.  Our biography was read.  That’s how it works.  We went to perform in Ghana and the Deputy Governor of Oyo State was present including Gov. Amosun. And he asked if we were from Ogun State.  And that was the first and last time we met him. However, the Deputy Governor asked us to perform at his child’s wedding. Thus, it’s by the virtue of our talent we get jobs not the other way round.

You were shrouded in a controversy recently.  What can you tell us about the paternity?

TAIWO: I would love to confirm that I have a bouncing baby boy.  As regards the identity of my baby father, I would rather keep quiet for now.

It was speculated that one of your sponsors, Captain Dele George was responsible and that you dated each other.

TAIWO: I will still say no comment.

Will you say it affected your career?

It didn’t really affect me except the fact that my sister was somehow and I had to calm her down.

Did the father of the baby accept paternity?

Yes and I thank God for his life.  As you can see, I am doing very well. I look fresh.  It’s all because I am happy and glad over the issue.

Kehinde, what role did you play during the crisis?

KEHINDE: At first, I was agitated but I got over it.  She is my sister.  If she had gone to abort the baby and lose her life, will her critics and fans be happy?  There are some things in life you can’t change.

And what was your mum’s reaction?

She was worried but later she said we are not getting younger and she was just like this your career that we should get married and all that. She was funny but she was very happy.

What are some of the lessons you have learnt that is symbiotic?

First of all, I would say God has plans for everything in life. It’s God that gave it to me.

What are you planning to do now?

We are planning to shoot the video of the music called Iyanu and we have another single that we are trying to release called Ojo Ife, where we featured Yinka Aiyefele.  Some of our friends that have heard the song have been clamouring that we just have to shoot the video.  We are trying to make our brother, Yinka Aiyefele give time for us to shoot the video.  We are also moving our songs to other states and also the compilation of our videos.

There is this rumour that you did a secret wedding, what do you have to say to that?

I will say no comment on that.  I love to put people in suspense, they should continue guessing.

When will the wedding hold and also what are the qualities of your ideal man?

Answering that question, I would say I am an independent person and I love to do things without being held.  Getting married would stop me from some things and still a very free type.  And about the second question, I would have said I want a tall man and the rest but the truth is that I want a God fearing man. Once he fears God, he has all other qualities.  Even that God fearing, I don’t know how I will know but I think I need to ask God because many people are good at pretending.  The issue of the ideal man, I just want to say I thank God for the man in my life.
