The rising profile of a super striker, Chikeluba Ofoedu

Nigeria is a country blessed with so many talented football players scattered all across the globe .
Of all the strikers that the country parades in top leagues in Europe, none has been more consistent than Chikeluba Ofoedu.
The all-action Maccabi Tel Aviv striker has continued to make bold statements with his goals in Israel for Gernot Rohr to hand him a well-deserved invite to the Super Eagles.
‘Chico’ took his scoring boots to Israel after spending seven straight seasons in Turkey, where he never fell short of expectations doing his thing.
The Enugu-born striker has refused to slow down at top Israeli side where his goals have contributed largely to their current good run.
He yet again opened the score sheet for his club in the match against Bnei Sakhnin which ended in a 4-1 victory,  in the 1st leg of the Isreali State Cup Quarter Finals.
He again scored against H. Kiryat Shmona in a 3-nil victory, to help Maccabi maintain their unbeaten run.
Ofoedu has continued to rise above his peers ever since he was given the platform to prove himself at his boyhood club Rangers International football club of Enugu, a club that grabbed him on loan from a non-league side and he didn’t disappoint despite his “unknown” player’s tag.
Turkey opened his arms for the 25-year old marksman and his deliveries at the four Turkish clubs were appreciable.
He played in the second-tier league there, but was just a matter of time before he would take his game higher and expectedly it was the biggest club in Israel.
Every reasonable football loving Nigeria still wonders what “Chico” would do again for him to get the attention of coach Gernot Rohr to get his well deserved place in the national team.
Afterall, the coach has continued to make it clear that our best players should always be invited to the national team, based on their clubs’ performances.
The former Enugu Rangers striker has remained consistent since he took his game abroad and has averaged double figures good enough to get the attention of Rohr.
His style – robust-playing, bullish, daring, stylish, skillful – are all the requirements to be invited to the Eagles’ set-up and “Chico” supplies all these in abundance.
The best players should at all times wear the colours of their countries and as such there is no reason Chikeluba “Chico” Ofoedu should not get his chance with the Super Eagles. And the time is definitely now.
