‘We are still investigating the matters,  no new arrest made’’-Police

Crimes in Lagos in the last few weeks will not be swept under the carpet as the Lagos command of the Nigerian Police will leave no stone unturned to solve the crimes; this is according to the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Joe Offor.

Mr. Offor, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who spoke with our correspondent, via the phone on Monday, November 2, 2015 assured Lagosians that the police is not sleeping.

“Of course, we are still on the case, we are still investigating the incident. We are not sleeping, but there have been no arrests made yet”, he said, responding to inquiries about the bank robbery of October 13, 2015 at FESTAC town, Lagos.

Refuting claims from some quarters that the police as moving at a slow pace in investigating the matter, he said, “We are not slow, that is not true. Things like this usually take some time, it is not something you just rush. It involves a lot of tactics. A lot of things are going on, we are not relenting. It will take time, but we will succeed”.

Meanwhile, he also provided update on the death of one Fumbi Lawal who was killed following a business agreement in Oworonshoki area of Lagos.

Reports said that the perpetrators of the crime, said to be Niger Republic nationals, who do motorcycle hire purchase business, murdered the young man and threw him from a four storey building.

Mr. Offor revealed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Division (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos and investigation is still ongoing.

“We do not have much problem on that case, what we are trying to do now is ensure that the investigation is tidied up so that the suspect will have no way of escaping”, he said.

Continuing, he added that the suspect is still under police custody.

Asked if only one suspect had been arrested so far as against five mentioned in some reports believed to have committed the crime, he said “My last situation report reveals that only one suspect has been; maybe further arrests have been made, but the last report on my table in respect to this case showed that only one suspect has been arrested”.

He further confirmed that the suspect confessed to the crime immediately he was arrested, and that the case would be charged to court in due time, after investigators have tidied up the case file.

Concluding, he said, “Yes, autopsy has been conducted on the deceased’s body and it has been deposited at the morgue. No, according to the last situation report, the family is yet to claim the corpse”.
