Hundreds of ‘outgrowers’ are benefiting from the corporate social responsibility of the Dangote Group with land, crops, fertilizer and fortifiers and the choice to sell at the best price to anyone!
The rice farmers, Alhaji Aliko Dangote enthused, are allocated a hectare or two to plant rice, supported all through the period until harvest, and given the option to sell at the best price in the market to any bidder.
The President and Chief Executive Officer mentioned this heartwarming arrangement at the media parley his company hosted on Sunday (July 14, 2024) at the expansive complex of the refinery and petrochemical company.
With 250,000 hectares across the country, they plan to cultivate only 10 percent of it and give the rest to farmers as out growers. And supply them varieties of rice, fertilizers and insecticides. Buy from them at harvest. If their price is not right they should sell to anyone who offer a better price.
‘We just want to create a lot of agro entrepreneurs. You give a family two hectares and buy whatever they grow from them. They are only going to grow the rice. They are not investing a dime, we will fund them. And give them guaranteed market.
