Why Kanu Nwankwo’s former business partner Ayo Gam Ikon sued him for N1 billion

Ayo Gam Ikon, erstwhile business partner of former international soccer star and Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo has sued him for N1 billion for malicious prosecution.

The case, filed on February 8, 2016, at the High Court of Lagos state, Ikeja Judicial Division, is yet to be assigned to any judge and no date has been fixed for hearing.

In the writ of summons and statement of claim filed by Clement Onwuenwunor, Esq, the claimant wants the sum of N1 billion as damages against the defendant for the malicious prosecution of the claimant through the Chief Magistrate Court order of 20th July, 2015.

“Payment of interest at the rate of 22 percent from the 15th of December, 2015, till judgment and thereafter at the rate of 10 percent until the final liquidation of the judgment sum.

“Cost off this action.”

The former partners, who jointly own The Hardley Apartments Ltd, on a 70/30 percent basis since 2004, parted ways in the middle of 2012 on a very bad note.

Thereafter, Kanu Nwankwo instigated many cases with the police, leading to Ayo Gam Ikon’s detention and prosecution.

Gam-Ikon eventually faced a 19-count charge at the Magistrate Court in Lagos on March 5,2015  but the case was eventually dismissed on June 27, 2015.

The harrowing experience of arrest and detention and prosecution with false claims have now led to this N1 billion suit again Kanu Nwanwko.

Apart from this N1 billion suit, there’s another one by Ayo Gam Ikon seeking the winding up of The Hardley Apartments Ltd, reportedly worth over N3 billion.
