Beauty Secrets of The Rich and Famous – Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage, pop star and music sensation

Tiwa Savage (6)POP star and music sensation, Tiwa Savage has taken the Nigerian music scene by storm.  The long limbed and lithe dark damsel is not only an exotic stunner but she can actually sing.  With her sensual style the LA returnee is in high demand at live show performances and even though she had practically lost her voice from a marathon weekend performance the night before, she graciously took sometime out to spill some of her beauty secrets…

Can you tell me three beauty items that you can’t do without?

That would be MAC powder, lip-gloss and mascara…

All MAC?

Yes…

Is there any reason why you like MAC so much?

Over the years I’ve tried lots of other products and Mac just seems to go so well with my skin type and tone.

And are there any products that you would never use?

No, not really…I can’t say I really experiment to have really used something that has had an adverse effect on me…I like simplicity, anyway.  So, I don’t use a lot of things.

Do you have any other favourite brands, like for foundation, etc?

Not really…I like Mac and I tend to stick with it.  I don’t really use foundation, just the powder.  But yes, all Mac.

What is your skincare regime like?

I use Dermalogica products.  I use the facial wash, morning and night.  And then I use the moisturizer and that’s’ it.  Every once in a while I have a facial.

That’s a very simple regime.  So, you don’t really face any challenges as far as your skin type is concerned?

No, hardly.

What is your skin type?

I actually have normal skin.

That’s quite lucky.  So, no challenge or concerns?

No…I only have the occasional spot at that time of the month, and it’s usually j

ust one spot.  So, I don’t even use anything for it because it goes away on its own.

But in spite of this, do you have things like facials?

Oh yes, I have a micro dermal facial at Bagazia in Lagos once a month.

Do you diet?

No, I don’t diet at all. I just eat everything in moderation.

So, how do you keep your figure?  Do you exercise, go to the gym?

No, I don’t do any of that either. I don’t really like gyms and apart from the fact that I believe I have a fast metabolism, all the rehearsing and performing I do as a performer is almost like a workout itself.  When I rehearse on the average, it’s for an hour a day, but don’t forget that on live performances there is a lot of energetic dancing and moving about.  You sweat and it really does feel like a workout.

What’s your dress size?

I am a UK size 8 or 10.

You are a very busy young lady at the moment, how do you relax?

Thank you, I’d say watching movies and shopping. I like watching movies at home, I like chick flicks and Afro-American movies like Love Jones and The Best Man. I don’t really shop in Lagos…but usually when I’m back in L.A, I like to go to the mall, the big shopping centres and shop.

How do you pamper yourself?

I like to go for spas and again I usually go to Bagazia.

TIWA SAVAGE (3)Do you have a favourite perfume?

I think I have phase of moods but right now I really love Gucci by Gucci. I bought it on the spur of the moment at the airport when I was travelling, and it turned out that I really like it.

Do you have a favourite colour?

No, I can’t say I do.  I don’t really have a colour that I don’t like either.  It really depends on my mood.  Sometimes, I would really like to wear really bold and bright colours.  And then at other times, I just want to wear black.

Do you prefer lipstick to lip-gloss?

I like lip-gloss…I like the shine in gloss.

What things do you usually like to do to your hair?

I usually have a long weave. But I like weaving my own hair…my own natural hair is actually quite long. Before I started performing, I used to wear a natural. But as a performer, you add all kinds of things to it as well. Being under the intense lights, I do the long weave.  It’s very convenient and it actually protects my natural hair. If I did all the things I do to my own hair it would definitely break.

What’s the most expensive thing in your wardrobe?

Umm (thinks hard) Probably a Louis Vuitton bag.

What’s your fashion fetish?

I like shoes, I like all kinds of shoes.  When I am not performing or just going out somewhere not too formal I like sandals, slippers, loafers.  I have quite a lot of shoes. I can’t really put a figure on it but I have a lot of shoes both here and at home in L.A.  I have a large number still in their boxes, unworn.  I like shoes.  The only kind of shoes I don’t really like are wedges.

Do you have a favourite designer?

I have to say I am totally in love with Nigerian designers.  They are so creative and vibrant.  I like Bridget Awosika.  I like Teju Doya and Grey.

What about fashion icons, people you admire for their fashion sense?

I like all the Kardashian sisters, they all together and individually combine all the elements of style that I like –glam, high fashion and the girl next door.

What do you like most about yourself?

My legs.

And least?

Emm…I don’t really like my ears.

Really, why?

I have tiny ears and I think I am a little self conscious about them.

I think it is better than having large ears…

(Laughing) Yes, you are right.

What wouldn’t you be caught dead wearing?

Fur…I am not a big fan of fur.

But considering that you are living in Nigeria fur would be a crazy choice anyway.  What wouldn’t you be caught dead in Nigeria?

Leather.

Ok.  Would plastic surgery ever be an option for you?

No.

Why not?

I am very content with the way I look at the moment.

What about in 10, 20 years?  Will you still feel the same way…

I hope so. No.  But seriously, I don’t think I would ever resort to plastic surgery unless God forbid I had an accident or something like that and had to do it for medical reasons.  I think that is the only circumstances that would make me even think about it.
