‘I Am Getting Married Soon’ – LIZZY ANJORIN

+ To premiere Kofo, the First Lady in December

ELIZABETH Ibukunoluwa Anjorin is one of the most fashionable and beautiful faces in the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood.  The delectable actress during an interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, talked about her new movie, Kofo, the First Lady, how she is getting ready for marriage and many more…

What have you been up to lately?

I have been good and I give the Almighty God all the glory.  I have been busy with my new movie, Kofo, the First Lady. I just rounded off the movie and getting ready for the premiere in December.  I am also working on the re-opening of my shop, Peak me Reloaded.  I have new stock like Senegalese dresses, Moroccan wears for both ladies and guys. I also make beads, popularly known as costume jewelry for ladies.

How would you assess your movie, Kofo Tinubu?

To God be the glory, I think it was successful.  I can call it a success beyond my imagination maybe because of my character and Kudi’s character in the movie and that is why I have to continue with the same character but with a different storyline. Lots of people are mixing it by asking if the Part 3 would be coming out but I keep telling them there is nothing like that.  The new thing is the storyline and not the cast.  In the movie, we see that character, Kofo become a governor’s wife.

LIZZY ANJORIN (1)You travelled to U.S recently, was it career related?

Yes.  Although when I went to the United States, it was for relaxation, I ended up shooting part of my movie there.

What has been happening to your store, Peak me Reloaded?  It was locked up for a while?

As a businesswoman, you may not be too comfortable with people working with you, because some of them believe the money is there, they don’t feel for you.  They don’t believe you worked for the money.  All they want is a piece of the cake they didn’t bake.  They believe you are into business because of one thing or the other, so I had to close it down.  I want a situation whereby I would be in the U.S for relaxation with rest of mind and nobody will send me a distress call to cut short my mission.  So, I got uncomfortable with people working around me and I closed my shop.  But anytime I’m around, I open it.  If you have a business, run it.

Since you locked up the shop, what have you lost?

I have lost nothing.  My customers love and believe in me, and my business is not competitive.  My product is mine and nothing can change that like bead making, jewelry.  If you need a heavy set of party beads, I make them because I wear them heavy and I love them heavy.  So, when it comes to fashion, people believe I have the best because with the little one that I have, I try as much as possible to wear the best.  Since I came back from the U.S, people have been coming like never before.  So, I have lost nothing.

What stands you out?

I believe what stand me out are my designs.  Like I said, I sell Senegalese, Moroccan and Indian wears for both male and female.  But my unique selling point is the fact that I design my dresses by myself.  That is why you will find it hard to see my designs elsewhere.  Like I tell people, if you have a party like two to three months ahead, kindly bring your clothes and I will design them for you.  And if you are pleased with the design then I would go ahead and make the dress for you.  It is not about selling the product, I also make the product.

It was alleged that one of your staffers made away with some of your goods and money, how does that make you feel?

It does not mean anything to me because we are all human and what do you expect?  Everybody can’t be like you.  Whenever you face such a problem or challenge like this, it makes you stronger, except you are lazy.

Instead of locking up the shop, why didn’t you find someone else to manage it?

If I get someone to replace her and she does the same thing, that may attract the police and tongues will begin to wag.  They wouldn’t be bothered about what offence the culprit may have committed.  I believe you can’t eat your cake and have it.  So, I have lost nothing.  For example, if I lock up 10 items in the shop and I come back, I would still meet my 10 items. I’m even waxing stronger by the day.

Being Yeye Oge of Arepoland, how does that make you feel?

I would say it was funny, I was the only young lady there. In fact, I was the youngest chief. That very day, the wonderful Olori of the town sent someone to me that we are going somewhere together.  During such outings, we always wore white but that day, I decided to go with what I had on because I believed I was not going for an event.  When I got there, I was kept in the midst of those Iya and Baba and that was how I was given the beads, the staff and the crown. At the end, I think I loved it because as a chief, you are not meant to bend for any other chief except the king. But in my own case, I did otherwise because it is in me, that is how I behave to everyone.

LizzyWhat are the traditional activities expected of you?

Part of the activities is to be going there for meetings for the development of the town and also for youth empowerment.  Although I have not been going because I travelled but I strongly believe I belong to that town.

How have you been discharging your duties?

If you are strong, you hardly avoid your duties.  So, you have to move everything around you. I can’t do everything alone.  So to empower them, some that have passion for movies, I put them through. An example is Kudi in my movie, Kofo Tinubu. She is very close to me, so I decided to put her through in the movie, and glory be to God, they have been doing good.  And for those in business, I have tried to put them through one or two things.

What are the things you still have in stock for them?

I want God to give them wisdom and understanding because I believe that would do them a whole lot more than what I can do for them.

How do you juggle movie, entrepreneurship and Yeye Oge?

I am a young woman and I just have to keep going.  My parents are no more, so I have to be on my toes because I do not have anything to tie me down.

Why are you still single?

I am getting married soon because I am planning towards it.  The same people that are worried that you are not married are the people that would insult you if anything goes wrong.  One thing I have learnt is that, you should not listen to human beings.  Instead, follow your own heart and do your thing.

What next should your fans expect from you?

They should expect the premiere of Kofo, the First Lady. I also need my fans to be patronizing me because I need their support.  Without them, there can’t be Lizzy Anjorin. I am me because of their love.
