Nigerians rap CBN over new ATM service charges

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is receiving knocks from bank customers for the reintroduction of ATM Service fee of N65 (if you withdraw from other ATM aside their bank’s). Denouncing the policy as another form of exploitation after some other Cost of Transactions (COTs), they urged the CBN governor to revert to the no- service charge regime.

‘WE WILL MISS SARKI SANUSI’
– Chinua Akubudike
We will sure miss the former CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Sarki Kano. He abolished ATM service fees during his tenure. I don’t support the current CBN governor in this anti- Nigeria policy. It should be stopped immediately.

‘THERE ARE TOO MANY BANK CHARGES’
– Cletus Ubah
I was shocked and disappointed by the CBN, to be honest with you. The new ATM service fee is absolutely unnecessary and not in the interest of customers. Status quo should be maintained.

‘CHARGING N65 IS OUTRAGEOUS AND FRAUDULENT’
– Nwachukwu Emiona
First, cash less policy was not the people’s mind set. In as much as it has the good side but the bad side has also come to stay. Charging N65 is outrageous and fraudulent because they charge us a lot already, N1000 basic maintenance fee, N60 for monthly SMS fee. I just pray we don’t get charged for being account owners with banks someday. And for the records, we don’t mind going back to the cash and carry at the counter policy.

‘I DON’T SUPPORT THAT MOVE’
– Isaac Gbenga
That is how to differentiate a progressive government from a regressive one. Instead of having more inventions that will better the lives of the citizens, Nigerian government just wants to push us to the wall at all costs. They don’t bother how, all they want is hardship for everyone. There’s God, anyway. I don’t support that move.

‘I SEE IT AS A FORM OF EXTORTION’
– Bakare Olamide
I see it as a form of extortion. We get charged by our banks monthly, so why should there be a service fee for ATM.

‘INSTEAD OF FINDING WAYS TO BETTER OUR ECONOMY…’
– Ogbe Farouk
I really dislike the idea. For instance, I need to withdraw N100,000 and the maximum cash dispensing capacity is N20,000 that would result in being charged N65 for every withdrawal and that is so very unfair. Instead of finding ways to better our economy they are busy devising means to extort from the masses.

‘I AM NOT PLEASED WITH THE DEDUCTION OF ANY ATM TARIFF AT ALL, NO MATTER HOW SMALL’
– Mary Olasode
I am not pleased with the deduction of any ATM tariff at all, no matter how small. And I think the Central Bank should revert the decision. We have been enjoying the no-ATM fee since the banks stopped the deduction of N100 per withdrawal with the use of ATM card. So, what now informed bringing it back again.

‘IT’S JUST TO COMPLICATE THINGS FOR PEOPLE’
– Fasasi Ahmed
I don’t think that’s necessary again. It’s just to complicate things for people. The economy itself doesn’t help matters. Now, the banks are adding to the inconveniences experienced by the poor masses who may not even have up to N10,000 in their accounts.
Every withdrawal with the ATM card should be free. So, all the banks charging in respect of that should stop. We can’t continue to pay N65 for withdrawing with the ATM card.

‘I THINK ALL I NEED TO DO IS TO SCHEDULE HOW TO WITHDRAW’
– Shinaayomi Hammed
I think all I need to do is to schedule how to withdraw so I will not exceed the three times opportunity given by my bank because I’m not ready to give any bank that N65.

‘IT SHOULD BE FREE’
– Abhiraj Olushayo Ajibade
It’s just a crap. It should be free.

‘THAT CHARGE IS TOO MUCH’
– Fatai Salami
It is uncalled for, they are ripping us off. That charge is too much. I don’t support it.

‘I DON’T SUPPORT IT AS WELL’
– Olaniyi Sumail
I am not sure all the banks have started because I still withdrew last week and nothing was deducted from me. I don’t support it as well because it won’t encourage savings.

‘IT IS NEEDED’
– Ademola shina
For me, it is needed considering the fact that before you pay N100 every time you use another bank’s ATM for withdrawal.

‘I FEEL IT’S DAY LIGHT ROBBERY’
– Nwazue Emmanuel
I feel it’s day light robbery. Why should you save money with them and they end up using the same money for business by charging you when you access it.
