The deadly Ebola disease is finally here. And fear of its infection is rapidly spreading. Here are what Lagosians know about the killer-viral disease and measures they are taking to avoid infection.

‘We should avoid by all means’
– OMOLOLA ALABI
I just heard about the virus when it was reported that a Liberian died of the disease in Lagos last week. Since then, I googled to find out more and to my knowledge it’s a deadly disease that humans should avoid by all means.
I read that we should avoid contact with a carrier and presently I don’t have anyone with the virus.

‘Ebola is deadlier than AIDS’

I didn’t know anything about Ebola or whatever, until the incident of last week that claimed the life of the Liberian man that brought the disease. They told us we should be careful with what we eat, sanitize our hands after handshake, we should avoid eating bat which have cultivated the habit.

‘I don’t have a handshake with an unknown person’
– FAUSAT ASIMOLOWO
The little I know about Ebola is that it’s an incurable disease. Even the World Health Organization has warned that it is yet to discover its cure. But the only thing one can do to avoid being infected is not to come close to on affected person.
We thank God, it’s not in Nigeria. And the only Liberian victim, Patrick Sawyer is dead. And I learnt he has been cremated to avoid any possibility of the disease spreading. The only thing I do now is that I don’t have a handshake with an unknown person. And I don’t eat any how any where again.

‘I don’t even pray I know anything further than that’
– ISAAC OYATOYE
I don’t know much about Ebola Virus other than what has been reported so far. I don’t even pray I know anything further than that. All I know is that it’s a deadly and presently incurable disease. And that anybody who comes in contact with affected person will automatically contact the disease.
All I do now is to be very careful of whom I have a handshake with. And every hour, I wish my hands with medicated soap.

‘I am very scared’
– JULIE ORUKPE
I know a lot and I am very scared. The virus kills faster than any other micro organism known to man. I hope and pray something will be done fast to control it. The necessary precaution is avoiding any patient suffering from the disease and washing my hands regularly. Just general cleanliness sha.

Ebola is a killer disease, it’s one of the haemorrhagic fevers. It kills faster than HIV/AIDS. However, in its earliest stages it can look like common malaria. Usually 7-9 days, its symptoms are vague and can be misdiagnosed.
I have devised the use of hand gloves when examining patients and washing or use of hand cleanser thoroughly after clinic and even after handshake.

‘We all should avoid shaking People and sweaty bodies’
– TOLU FADAIRO
It is one of the fastest virus that kills within 48hours? Like medical experts have said, we all should avoid shaking people and sweaty bodies.

From the news on TV and the social media, I would say I know much about Ebola virus. It is shocking to hear that such a deadly virus does not have a cure yet. To keep myself clean and free from body contact either at work or on the street.
