Ladies: How to keep your skin looking radiant in this hot weather

The weather in most parts of Nigeria is pretty hot at the moment, the humidity means that there is a lot of moisture in the air. This causes the pores of the skin to open and make them susceptible to gathering dirt, oil and allergens. Too much humidity can cause problems like acne, skin breakouts, eczema and allergic reactions that show up on the skin.

Celebrity skincare specialist, Pela Tonye Okiemute of Pels International Skincare gave encomium.ng some tips on how to keep the skin radiant despite the hot weather.

Hot weather in most cases is caused by sunshine, so wearing sunscreen is probably the most important thing you can do to protect your skin from the sun. Remember to apply sunscreen every two hours or more frequently.

Also, perspiration can cause skin issues such as heat rash, redness, etc, so combating sweat should be a priority. Frequent washing can help prevent a buildup of sweat that could lead to a rash. Preferably, wash with cold water and a gentle cleanser that won’t completely dry or irritate your skin

Skin tends to be more prone to breakouts during hot weather, so face washes and lotions containing salicylic acid can help prevent or treat hot weather induced breakouts.

Lastly- your toning products whatsoever should all be applied at night as a night cream.

Other Useful Tips

Hydration: One way to keep your skin healthy in hot weather is from the inside by keeping the body well hydrated. This can prevent the skin from succumbing to the drying effects of summer heat. You should also use a daily moisturizer that is oil-free to help keep the skin from being dehydrated

Prevention- as difficult as it may be to avoid contact with sun, it’s also advisable to protect your skin from the sun with other methods like wearing a protective scarf, hats, sunshades to protect the eye area. Also, taking a daily multivitamin can boost antioxidants in the body that keeps the skin healthy and protected from heat.

Note – One of the best ways to cool down your facial skin after heat and UV radiation is facial mask. You can refrigerate your mask a bit and then after washing your face, use a mild toner, then use your mask. You can use it every other day as it’s a perfect way to cool and soothe your skin.
