Nigerians reject Jonathan’s N160 billion loan request (3)

Nigerians, from all walks of life have totally rejected the $1 billion loan request by President Goodluck Jonathan to fight insurgency.

Angry with the Federal Government for such a senseless and needless demand, all our respondents rapped Jonathan for being insensitive to the sufferings of the common man. They also advised him on more appropriate policy options to deal with Boko Haram.

‘I am not okay with the idea’ – EKWEDIKE CHRISTOPHER

The issue I have with the loan is that the money will not be put into proper use. This is the reason I am against it. Assuming they will be accountable and transparent in the spending of the money, I would have been comfortable with the idea, but you know our government.

In short, I am not okay with the idea.

‘How are we going to pay back?’- MBAMARA QUEEN

$1 billion! For what? Our government and their many schemes to run the economy down. I have just one question to ask the government and anyone who supports this loan. How are we going to pay back? I really hope it would not be a situation where this present administration will leave the debt for the next one to pay off. I am not a party to this.

‘This is fraudulent’-VENERABLE ENYIOMA NWOSU

Asking for a loan of N160 billion is, in my mind, suspiciously fraudulent. It’s unfortunate that Nigerians are being deceived. There is no need for the loan.

Instead, we should draw from the Excess Crude Account and other funds they have been misapplying.

‘This cannot stand’ – COMRADE ONYEKACHI ONYEKWERE

This cannot happen here. We are not in a banana republic where you can do anything. That loan is not necessary. They should use Abacha’s loot to fight Boko Haram.

‘What happened to the budget allocations for the security agencies?’ – ABAYOMI BAJEMINBEWON

If I may ask, what happened to the budget allocations for the security agencies and armed forces all these years? Where have they disappeared to? So, an extra $1 billion is just not prudent enough and again there is still the issue of missing $10 billion, where is it today?

They should find the missing $10 billion and take the $1 billion they need, if it has to be money by all means.

‘Fadeke will never ever support that’ – FADEKEMI MOMOH

Left to me, Fadeke will never, ever support that. My recommendation is that they should exchange our oil for the weapons and services they need from developed countries not another $1 billion that will just disappear.

‘I’m not in support of that’ – IROULO VICTOR

$1 billion for Boko Haram, I feel it’s too much because we just need a good strategic plan. Better off, invest on this Ebola, for safety. If we are not safe and healthy, then we can’t fight Boko Haram.

‘It’s a stupid idea’- OLALERE DANIEL

First, the resources we have are not being used effectively and second, borrowing that much money will put Nigeria in a very huge debt. Government should try and negotiate with them, talk to them, because that might be a reason for their actions, that is, if government is not part of them o.

‘I believe Nigeria is rich enough’- ESTHER BABATUNDE

I don’t support it at all, I believe Nigeria is rich enough to combat its problem. The government is not sincere enough. They know the sponsors of Boko Haram, they can tackle the issue if they are serious.

‘No, I don’t support it at all’ – SEUN AGBOOLA

No, I don’t support it at all. Some people will misappropriate it. Government should equip the military, they should also appreciate and reward the military, a lot of them lost their lives to the scourge, their families should be compensated. Government also needs to fish out the sponsors of Boko Haram.

‘May be he needs more money for his presidential campaign in 2015’ – GLORY EKANEM

If getting N160 billion will help us conquer the dreaded Boko Haram, I think he should be given the loan. We’re tired of all these killings. No place is safe again. Everybody is scared. But the only thing is that, the President himself may not be sincere.

May be he needs more money for his presidential campaign in 2015. That’s why he is clamouring for the loan. All I think we need to fight the insurgents is not much money but intelligence.

‘It’s a waste of resources’ – BALA AHMAD

I don’t support the request of N160 billion by President Goodluck Jonathan to fight Boko Haram. It’s a waste of resources. He should tell Nigerians what else he needs the money for. I don’t think Nigerians are fools again. So, Mr. President should stop deceiving us.
