Oscar Pistorious: Judge convicts athlete of culpable homicide

South African double amputee, Oscar Pistorious, has been convicted of culpable homicide in the killing of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines Day last year.

The judge – Thokozile Masipa – said the 27-year-old athlete had acted ‘unlawfully’ when he fired four shots into a toilet door, killing the model who was behind it.

Culpable homicide – which is the equivalent of manslaughter in other countries – carries a maximum jail term of 15 years, but no minimum jail term.  He could be sentenced in a couple of weeks.
