P Square’s Personally now the most-watched Nigerian music video on Youtube, usurps no. 1 spot from D’Banj’s Oliver Twist

Africa’s biggest music duo, Paul and Peter Okoye (otherwise known as PSquare) have, once again, proven that when it comes to art of music video making in Nigeria, they are light years ahead of their peers as the video for their 2012 hit, Personally, has wrestled the most-watched Nigerian music video on Youtube crown from D’Banj’s Oliver Twist.

The views for Personally now stands at over 30 million, as it garnered almost 3 million views within one month (from 27.3m to over 30m views from October to November 2014).

1. PSquare – Personally

Personally by singing and dancing twin brothers, P-Square leads, having been viewed 30,062,186 times. The video features cameos from actor, Osita Iheme and one half of P Square, Peter’s son (Cameron Okoye) and is directed by the pair’s brother, Jude ‘Engees’ Okoye and the prolific Clarence Peters.

 

 

2. D’Banj – Oliver Twist

Though slipping down one place to second, Oliver Twist by D’Banj still remains a favourite among online video viewers as it has garnered a whooping 29,707,374 views. Directed by Sesan, the video features cameo
appearances from American music stars, Kanye West (who had D’Banj on his G.O.O.D music label at the time), Big Sean, as well as other international acts.

 

 

3. PSquare – Chop my money

The dynamic duo also occupy third spot with 2011 hit Chop my money, featuring May D and international singing sensation, Akon. The video, also directed by Jude ‘Engees’ Okoye, has been viewed 22,991,681 times.

 

 

4. PSquare – Beautiful Onyinye

P Square’s dominance continues as they sit pretty in fourth place with another hit, Beautiful Onyinye – the remix version. Self-acclaimed boss, international rapper, Rick Ross is featured on the song. It has garnered 20,329,570 views and is, again, shot by the duo’s brother, Jude ‘Engees’ Okoye.

 

 

5. Iyanya – Kukere

Kukere, that 2012 song which got everyone off their seats and on their feet the moment it is played either on radio or at parties. It is the song that placed crooner Iyanya in the exclusive A-list. Its catchy beat, easy-to-sing-along lyrics and etighi dance all added up to put this song on everyone’s lips. The video shot by one of the very best, Patrick Elis has been viewed 14,575,601 times.

 

 

6. Flavour – Nwa Baby (remix)

Modern highlife star, Flavour has not looked back since the release of Nwa Baby (the remix) in 2011, as he has gone on to establish himself as a true superstar. This video – shot by Godfather production in South Africa – has 14,329,441 views and has been nominated for several prestigious awards including the Most Gifted Afro-Pop Video at the 2011 Channel O awards.
7. PSquare – Do Me

It surely must be looking like a list for P Square songs only, it is actually for the most-watched Nigerian music video by every artiste. The duo are again on the list with the video of 2008 monster hit, Do Me featuring the sultry Waje. The video – as is the norm – was shot by Jude ‘Engees’ Okoye, it has 13,711,360 views.

 

 

8. Davido – Aye

Saying Aye by 22-year-old sensation, Davido is the stand out song for 2014 is stating the obvious, with some dubbing it ‘the anthem of Nigerian music in 2014’. The video – directed by the virtuoso Clarence Peters – features heavy use of traditional costumes. It had appearances from Davido’s HKN label mate and cousin – Sina Rambo and singer, Runtown. Currently, it has 11,818,221 views.

 

 

9. Flavour ft. Tiwa Savage – Oyi Remix

Highlife king, Flavour makes a second appearance on the list with the video for his song, Oyi (the remix) which featured the delectable Tiwa Savage. The colourful video – again directed by Godfather production – has 10,331,541 views.
10. Davido – Gobe

Making a second appearance is Omo Baba Olowo, Davido with Gobe, which has 10,093,798 views. The video was directed by Godfather production.
