‘My ordeal in the ugly incident’- Empress Ene

Thursday, June 16, 2016, will forever remain memorable to some Nollywood stars who were robbed in a hotel in Owerri, Imo state during a movie shoot.

A reliable source disclosed to ENCOMIUM Weekly that the bandits penetrated the hotel via the fence and started shooting sporadically while the actors, cast and crew at the location scampered for safety. In the process, according to the source, few of them were wounded. A member of the crew was also shot in the leg.

According to the source, one of the actresses on the movie set, Ene Comforrt Ikwumomu (Empress Ene) sustained a deep cut in her leg while her phones, laptop and cash were stolen alongside others in the location.

“It’s a terrible experience for some movie stars in Owerri about two weeks ago. I learnt they were shooting in one hotel in Owerri, Imo state when some armed robbers gained access to the hotel where they’re lodged and started shooting. Not all of them were lucky to escape unhurt. Empress Ene and one of the crew was seriously wounded. I learnt Ngozi Ezeonu succeeded in escaping without being attacked.

“I learnt the police later came to their rescue but the robbers escaped with some cash and valuables belonging to the victims.

“The police have taken over the matter and very soon, the robbers would be arrested.”

One of the victims, Empress Ene confirmed the pathetic occurrence when ENCOMIUM Weekly contacted her on Saturday, June 25, 2016. The Benue born actress, while narrating the ordeal, expressed gratitude to God for saving her and her colleagues at the movie location.

“I was working with Angel House Production on a movie, Encounter featuring Ngozi Ezeonu, Ene Comfort (Empress Ene), Anthony Abah, Geraldine Ejiogu Mama G, Henry Osemwege, 2Bar and others.

“After completing some exterior shoot, we came down to the hotel we lodged to continue with the interior scenes and I went to rest for sometime by 11:30. They dropped Ngozi Ezeonu to rest and also Papa China from Benue chapter of the AGN. And by 12 midnight, I came down the stairs to ask them to turn on the tap because I wanted to bathe. The waiter asked me to give him 10 minutes which I did.

“And we sat in the premises with some of the crew of the movie from Jos John, Chinese, props and set designer. After a while, I saw two guys jumping into the compound, one with an axe with red cloth tied round his head and the second one with a gun. He covered his face with blue material.

“At first, I wasn’t scared until I heard a gunshot. So, I had to run for my life. In the process, I broke the glass door at the reception for me to escape. The receptionist was lying on the floor, everybody was scampering for safety. I never knew I had sustained a deep cut on my leg, bleeding everywhere, before the police arrived. I was rushed to their clinic.

“And as the National Chief Whip of AGN, I decided to convince the producer to bring the job to Benue because Ngozi refused to go to Jos and I felt it’s in Otukpo or Makurdi that one or two members of AGN, Benue chapter will partake in the movie which was done by the Vice Chairman, AGN, Benue chapter, Benjamin Nwaeze.

“Finally, I want to say a big thank you to the director, Raph Sunny Okwori, SSA Entertainment to the governor that really showed concern and gave us security until we concluded the shooting and no one was raped, only that few people, including myself sustained varying degrees of injury. The robbers succeeded in taking away cash and valuables, including expensive phones and laptops.

“In all, Almighty God stood by us. May peace and love continue to grow among us.”
