‘We are worse off with the DISCOs electricity’ (2) -Electricity consumers lament

Electricity consumers say they are worse off with the power Distribution Companies (DISCOs) than the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) or the former NEPA.

They gave their reasons in these interviews with our reporters….

JIMOH HABEEB, Fagba

There has never been any improvement in power supply. It’s still the same story. I pay nothing less than N8,450 almost every month as against the previous payment of N3,750 minimum per month.

I wouldn’t have minded paying heavily if the service is good, but the reverse is the case. I hope the next administration would take a bold step in addressing the issue.

SAMSON AYOADE, Iju

Call it PHCN or DISCOs, electricity supply hasn’t changed. I believe they are just two sides of a coin. Power supply is even worse in our area. We run our generator set for minimum of 14 hours a day, yet we pay almost double the amount we used to pay before DISCOs took charge. Federal Government needs to set up a monitoring committee that will be regulating the activities of DISCOS. We can’t continue like this.

RASAK OYEKUNLE, Agege

There’s no improvement at all. I pay N5,200 per month. They give us one day on and one day off. Even with that, we hardly see light.

OPEYEMI EDUNJOBI, Fagba

There is no improvement. As I am talking to you now, we don’t have light. We pay N10,000 per month and nothing to show for it. We run generator all day.

ISAAC GBENGA, Ikotun

It has not improved. In fact, it is getting worse. We pay through our nose. I pay close to N10,000 every month. It’s not cheaper at all. No metre, they just give crazy bills.

AMUDA BALOGUN, Akute

They do one day on and three days off but there is no difference between when we are meant to have power supply and when we are off.

I have always been paying N5,000 monthly but no difference. They bring crazy bills knowing that there is no power supply and I keep wondering where they are getting all their measurement from.

JUMOBI ADISA, Alagbole

No. In fact, I do not know difference between NEPA, PHCN and the new DISCOS. I spend nothing less than N5,000 per month for power supply.

It is not cheap at all because if we pay so much and we do not get the value for what we paid for then it does not make sense to me. For me, they have never been reliable but we hope for the best.

JOYCE CLEMENT, Isolo

There is no improvement here. Rather it is worse than before. And sadly, we even pay more than we did under NEPA/PHCN.

For instance, we used to pay N3,000 per flat after it is shared, now we pay N5,000. Yet, there is no power to justify the crazy bill. It’s terrible.

NDUBUEZE UKPO, Alagbole

Where do you see electricity in Ogun state? Nothing works here. The DISCOs have even unleashed total blackout on our community.

Before their advent, at least we used to enjoy light but not anymore. We don’t have metres here. We pay whatever they give us. It’s not even consistent. You pay N2,000 now and they would give you N3,000 or less next month.

The bottom line is the DISCOs are not better than NEPA or PHCN.
