What is the meaning of Onye?
Onye has several meaning, depending on the context. In the song, it means person.
Who is the person are you referring to?
Everyone that I love (laughs). My daughter is my person, everyone in my life.
Including him?
(Laughs) Including you. Anybody, including people listening to the song. They are my fans, the Onye in my life. I usually don’t like confining myself in a song that is happy and fun, people should be able to find themselves in it. You can sing it to your mother, sisters and everyone. But, in actual sense, it’s for a guy.
It’s a love song which is basically about two young women boasting about the people they love. They do whatever they can for their man. At times, we didn’t know that the man we love is not actually Our man. That’s what the song is all about.
What informed the choice of Tiwa Savage?
It was one of the tracks in my album (WAJE) released last year, and Tiwa and I have always talked about working together. Of course, she’s a great personality and talent-wise, she’s fantastic. That’s why we put the chemistry together.
Why are you releasing it now?
I believe that was the best time to release it. For me, I like to work at my own pace, I did it. So far, it’s incredible. There are great songs on the album. When it’s time, I would release more videos.
