Dangote, Otedola join politicos at Tosin Saraki’s introduction in Ilorin

Captain of commerce and industry, Alhaji Aliko Dangote led fellow moguls to the very private ‘introduction’ heralding the nuptials of Oluwatosin Saraki and Adeniyi Olatunde Olukoya in Ilorin (Kwara state) on Saturday, October 21, 2017.
This first leg of the wedding ceremonies hosted by the family of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, encomium.ng gathered, was witnessed by politicos as well as tycoons and professionals in different sectors. Staged in the former Kwara governor’s home, the soiree was as exciting as it was elegant with some of the hip crowd from Lagos bringing a dose of chutzpah to the ceremony.
With purple aso ebi headgear and cap, many of the guests adorned white traditional garbs. But scores of women were decked in the colourful African prints’ aso ebi, mostly in two-piece skirt and blouse with more than a handful decorated with shimmering metals.
Different styles of the bright prints lit the venue, and some of the friends of the families brought their high sense of fashion to bear.
And among the leading ladies in head-turning apparels were Yewande Zaccheaus, Ekua Abudu, Onikepo Braithwaite, Gbemi Sasore, Ruth Osime, Debbie Oghene, Nike Animashaun, Furo Hart, Sola Coker…
In the gentlemen’s corner, encomium.ng counted Mr. Femi Otedola, oil tycoon behind Forte Oil, Mazi Sam Iwuajoku, a businessman and one of the closest friends of Africa’s richest man, and many legislators in the National Assembly, including Senator Dino Melaye, among the attendees.
With strict security measures, those without invitation cards were kept out of the venue. And a large group of women and men in aso ebi, perhaps political supporters, were reportedly barred from the grounds of the introduction.
The ceremony – with Mrs Toyin Saraki, the ecstatic mother of the 25-year-old bride in colourful hues accentuated by green and purple (the aso ebi) – was simple but classy with minimal decoration.
The traditional introduction in this clime is where the couple is formally presented to the extended families. With a letter from the groom’s family to the bride’s, the intention to marry is relayed. Usually hosted by the family of the bride at home, many elements of a party have been added to turn it into an ‘owambe’ by Nigerians.
Apart from full compliments of food and drinks, there are more side attractions that elevate the event depending on how much is deployed.
And for the Sarakis, good money was put to play as Eboni Band led by Godbless Ubiebifayen entertained the galaxy of politicos, moguls, professionals and socialites who turned Ilorin that Saturday, October 21, the place to be.
