As millions of Nigerians mourn the death of flamboyant Nigerian billionaire and diplomat, Ambassador Anthony Dehinde Fernandez, one of his wives, Erelu Abiola Dosumu, has refused to comment despite our several phone calls and text message to her.
Erelu Abiola Dosumu, was once married to Ambassador Dehinde Fernandez (combining her first husband’s name and that of Chief Dehinde Fernandez). This was the name with which King Sunny Ade waxed a track on her behalf in one of his popular albums. But few years ago, things went sour in their relationship and the man told her to drop his name. That was how Erelu Abiola Dosumu resorted to her maiden name, Dosumu.
Chief Dehinde Fernandez did not only force her to drop his name, he also severed the relationship between Erelu Abiola Dosumu and his daughter, Oyinkansola Fernandez. For years Oyinkasola could not relate with her mother for fear of being cut off from her father’s inheritance.
It got to a stage that the former President Olusegun Obasanjo intervened on behalf of Erelu Dosumu appealing to Ambassador Fernandez to allow her see her daughter but he called off Obasanjo’s bluff.
Erelu Abiola Dosumu was certainly not the only wife of late Ambassador Dehinde Fernandez. She is probably wife number four.
Before her was Princess Ibilola Lipede, Folashade Bankole and Barbara Joyce Fernandez, all of whom are dead now. After her was late Mrs. Aduke Olufunmilayo Fernandez and Mrs. Halima.
Late Ambassador Dehinde Fernandez was also not the only husband of Erelu Abiola Dosumu. There was late Major Tunde Elegbede, who she had her first two children for. There was also Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, a.k.a Triple A, who many are speculating is the father of her last daughter.
Late Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Ooni of Ife, also featured as one of the men in Erelu’s life.
