What are your thoughts on the movie?
Actually, I thought it was going to be an action-packed, very fast-paced with guns blazing movie, but it’s more of drama, and it was great!
What’s the message that you picked from the movie?
The message of empathy and compassion for others.
Putting yourself in Ashley’s position when she was held, what would you have done?
I would have taken the gun the first time he left it in the bathroom; I probably also would have driven away when he had to go drop off the truck, but she didn’t do all that.
Away from that now, what do you currently have on your hands?
I’m working on my debut album, it’s titled Seyi or Shay, and there’s a story behind that, it will be November 13 by God’s grace. There’ll be a listening at Eko Hotel and Suites. Look forward to it.
What do you think of nudity in musical videos?
I’ve never been nude in any of my videos, I’ve just been trendy. Being nude is like stack naked, right? I don’t stand for it, I don’t think it’s tasteful. But I do think that everybody has a right to their own creative expression. I’m not going to be nude in my videos, I promise (laughs)!
Can we correct nudity in both musical videos and the entertainment industry as a whole, and how do you think this can be achieved?
Yes, of course! I actually think that we can correct it in the industry generally if the trend setters and influential people start buying into the idea of people being covered up. We as Nigerians we are very hypocritical, nobody’s talking about what these men and women do behind closed doors, in settings where there are no cameras. We just scrutinise and criticise people who are just working, making their money. We can change the whole view on TV and it would still be cool. I’m not hypocritical, what happens behind closed doors? I could cover up and all my peers could do the same, but it still won’t change what happens when there are no cameras.
Is what is portrayed on TV a reflection of the artiste’s person?
No, it’s a reflection of what the people that are watching are and want.
Let’s talk about your performance with Neyo at the MAMAs, that was a great performance! What was running through your mind while you were on stage?
I was hoping I don’t mess up the words and the song.
Despite that you gave a good performance.
Thank you so much. I think it was more adrenaline than anything else. That even if I didn’t know the words, I would have killed it because of the adrenaline.
