Police maintain Mushin mayhem was not robbery

Contrary to the report by a national daily on Monday, April 21, 2014, the incident which led to the raid of about eight streets in Mushin, Lagos, and about 30 vehicles damaged, the Lagos State Police Command, via its spokesperson, DSP Ngozi Braide, has denied any robbery attack in the area. The command added that it was a clash between two rival cult groups.

Speaking with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Sunday, April 27, 2014, Braide allayed the fear by the people in the area, adding that normalcy has returned. She therefore called on the residents to go about their normal and legitimate activities as those involved in the heinous act have been arrested.

“The Lagos State Command on Saturday, April 26, 2014, arrested the kingpins of gangsters that had supposedly rendered Mushin and its environs inhabitable for citizens. At about 3:30pm, Toba Ajiboye, Yusuf Akinwale and Adigun Oriyomi, alias Muda were apprehended at a hideout on Karim Street, Mushin, Lagos while hatching plan to attack Oshodi. The said Adigun Oriyomi had been on police wanted list for cases of murder. Meanwhile, manhunt for other gangsters continues as the command will not rest until total calm is restored in the area. The people of the area are advised to go about their legitimate activities and continue to maintain law and under.”

Meanwhile, it was also reported that the hoodlums that unleashed the terror in the area belonged to two rival cult groups, Akala Boys and Toheeb Gang.

A reliable source also told ENCOMIUM Weekly that the incident wasn’t the first time as there are lots of rival cult groups in Mushin and its environs that usually engage one another in similar fight.

“What really happened in Mushin that day wasn’t a robbery attack per se, it was a cult clash but anytime that happens, it usually leads to looting of shops and damaging of property. That was exactly what happened on Monday, April 21, 2014. I believe it is high time the Lagos State government put heavy security in the area to forestall future occurrence of such.”
