Coronation Street’s William Roache cleared of all child sex charges

William Roache, TV soap opera star with the longest running role, has been cleared of all charges of child sex abuse leveled against him.

The Coronation Street star was acquitted this morning by jurors over the allegations dating back to the 1960s.

Roache, 81, who played Ken Barlow in the soap, was impassive as the verdict of ‘not guilty’ was read –but his family was ecstatic.

“Thank you to jury and all those who have supported me.

“In these situations there are no winners and I think we should all be kinder to ourselves.

“Now, if you will excuse me, I would like to get back to work”, the TV star who has been on the soap since 1960 said after the four-week trial.
