BBA attracts public condemnation

Big Brother Africa is a popular TV reality show that has attracted the attention of many across African continent. However, a lot of people are displeased by the level of immorality that has charactierised the show. Some Nigerians ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke to suggested it should be scrapped.

‘It is sheer rubbish’- TEMITOPE ADEBISI

I think it is sheer rubbish. They could promote a better content and make money from it. They should be custodians of morals. Yes, it should, that will be a good decision.

‘We don’t need the sex and shower part’- JOY UBEKU

Big Brother Africa is doing a great job but I think we don’t need the sex and shower part. I mean, this is Africa, we are not in the western world, little privacy would help.

‘It should not be scrapped’- ADEOLA ADEGBESAN

I feel they can adjust the immorality aspect. I don’t think it should be scrapped because, the aim is to unite African countries but I think it should be reviewed to reduce the immorality content. This will make it more viewer friendly.

‘The show portrays immorality’- OLORUNFEMI ODEJOBI

The show portrays immorality. Since it started, I have never seen any year housemates won’t have open sex in the house. I don’t think it should be scrapped anyway because the show is strictly for adults.

‘They promote immorality’- BIODUN ALAKIJA

I don’t think the show is to promote immorality, it is the housemates that made it so. I don’t blame them, they stay together in a house for three months, we are all human beings for Christ sake. To me, I think it should be scrapped because it is corrupting our youths.

‘It should replace with better concept’- STEVEN NWALAKA

It’s just a platform for advancing moral decadence. It has not fulfilled the real reason it was established. You can imagine housemates caressing and kissing each other. What does that suggest?

Left to me, I think BBA should be scrapped and replaced with a better concept.

‘I don’t know much about it’- IYIOLA AJIBADE

I don’t know much about it. I have only been hearing of it. And the only thing people discuss is sex among the housemates. I think the purpose of the reality show is cultural integration among Africans, but that purpose has been defeated by all these open demonstration of immorality.

If it could be re-organised to fulfill its purpose, let it remain.

‘I don’t think it should be scrapped’- STANLEY CHIBUNA (Funnybone)

The question is what is immorality? How do you define immorality? Big Brother Africa show clearly doesn’t advise nor ask housemates to be weird or loose. As a housemate you choose to be who you want to be in the house. I don’t think it should be scrapped.

Rather I think we are being judgmental. They are housemates who don’t do any thing that can be addressed as immoral.

‘It’s an interesting show’- OGIRIMAH GIFT

I don’t have problem with BBA since it’s not for the general public. It is restricted! Besides, it is not all the so-called immoralities that are shown on TV. I believe Big Brother Africa is not for everybody but still, they should just show the public the part that can impart positively in the lives of the youths.

I do not support the idea of scrapping it. It’s an interesting show.

‘BBA shouldn’t be scrapped’- FRANCIS KALU

We have so many things to think about than BBA and its purported display of pornographic images. Although, it’s for adults, I think it should be banned.

‘Bba should be scrapped’- PASTOR NATHANIEL OTOROLEHI

I don’t think the constant projection of immorality under any guise is ethically correct. This is not what Africa is all about. Though some have argued it is not for everybody to watch, I don’t think we should leave our airspace uncensored.

I think the NBC should not authorize the transmission of BBA so as not to influence our youths negatively.

‘Don’t blame the housemates’- BIODUN ALAKIJA

I don’t think the reality show was initiated for promotion of anything immoral, rather it was for cultural integration. But the housemates have constantly turned it to an avenue to exhibit immoral practices.

However, I don’t think they should be blamed, only that they need to be regularly counseled. Left to me, it’s difficult for mature people of opposite sex to be camped for 90 days without making a move for sex. We are all human, we should put ourselves in their shoes, instead of criticizing them. But that does not mean it shouldn’t be scrapped if the need be.

‘BBA is known for more of immorality’- OLORUNFEMI ODEJOBI

BBA is known for more of immorality than any other thing in the public eye. Since it started, there was no edition that was devoid of immoral practices, including kissing, caressing and even sex among housemates. But despite all these, I think the show should continue. After all, it’s strictly for adult viewers, not for all.

‘I think it will be a good decision if it’s scrapped’- LATEEF OLANIYAN

It’s a reality shows that portrays the immoral sides of the housemates more than every other aspect of their lives. I think it will be a good decision if it’s scrapped. It’s a programme that runs for 90 days and all the participants are camped in the same place.

So, it’s very difficult to avoid all these sorts of immoral activities. And by continuing the programmes, more youths out there are bound to be corrupted.

‘People should stop complaining’- AMAKA OKOLI

BBA is a reality show. No matter what happens there, people should stop complaining. If they don’t like it, they don’t need to view it. It’s not even for all. It’s mainly for those who subscribe for it. I can’t speak against it at all. People should just leave them alone and face their businesses.
