‘I want to build on Gov. Rotimi Amaechi’s legacies’

HIGH-flying comedian, Julius (De Genius) Agwu has formally confirmed he is running for governor in Rivers State.  Disclosing this in an exclusive interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Saturday, August 9, 2014, the Choba, Ikwerre, Rivers born comedian said he would build on Governor Amaechi’s laudable policies if elected governor in 2015.

“I want to build on the achievements of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi; to create employment and wealth. And also to bring back the lost glory of our state…The Garden City.”

Asked to reveal the party he is angling for its guber ticket, the father of two children said it’s still under wraps.  He also dispelled palpable fears that he might dump show business for politics, insisting his passion lies on the former.

We learnt you are running for governor in Rivers State?

Yes, I am.

Why do you want to govern the oil- rich state?

We need a generational change and I believe I can help my people achieve this.

So, what would be your agenda if elected governor?

I want to build on the achievements of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi; to create employment and wealth. And also bring back the lost glory of our state, ‘The Garden City.’

Under what party platform would you be running?

My party platform is under wraps for now. But it would be unveiled in due course. Trust me, you will be the first to know when it is unveiled!

Have you intimated your people with your intention?

This decision was taken after consultations with my people. As a matter of fact, I gave in to the pressure of my people to run for the governorship of my state, Rivers State.

Considering the fact that politics requires a lot of money, how would you mobilise funds for the election?

We have already started getting calls from sponsors. And I believe that when we get to that bridge, we shall cross it…Already, we have drawn a master plan on funding.

A lot of Rivers people also think that Ikwerre have done eight years and should allow other zones to take the slot.  What’s your take on this?

This is the first attempt by an Ikwerre man as governor. And Rivers people know that Governor Amaechi has done well. So, like I said, I want to build on his achievements as a fellow Ikwerre.

Do you have the support of Governor Amaechi?

Yes, I have Governor Amaechi’s support. But that does not mean I am running on his platform. Watch out for the unveiling.

Many think you would have gone to the House of Assembly or chairmanship of your local government?

They should have as we’ll asked me to start from ‘class monitor.’  I have taken the bold step and I know that God shall see me through. I advise them to read Eccl 9:11 ( I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all).

Does it mean you will quit show business?

I will not quit show business because it’s my passion.
