-‘Yes, I’ve filed for divorce, no going back’
TOKUNBO Melaye, estranged wife of controversial politician cum activist, Dino Melaye has finally opened up on her troubled marriage to the Kogi born former lawmaker, adding that their divorce process is already in progress.
Speaking with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Sunday, April 13, 2014, the pretty mother of three children stated that her union of over a decade with Melaye has packed up irreconcilably, hence the decision to file for divorce.
She also told us that she is aware of all the social media reports concerning the crumbled union allegedly on account of infidelity and threat to life on the part of the politician turned activist.
“Yes, my marriage to Dino Melaye has packed up. I am confirming to you now. There is nothing else I need to tell you again about that. Thank you.”
Probed further if she is aware of all the stories on the internet concerning the botched relationship, she reacted, “Why won’t I be when I am the one who filed for divorce? They are nothing but the truth. I have filed for divorce, and there is no going back about that. But I can’t give you any details concerning that for now. Besides, I am in a middle of a meeting now, I can’t talk more than that.”
ENCOMIUM Weekly also tried to get across to Dino Melaye with a view to seeking his reaction on the development, but this was unsuccessful as all the calls put through his mobile line were ignored. We also sent him a text message, which was equally not replied till we went to press.
Sometime in 2012, the marriage of the former federal lawmaker to his estranged wife, Tokunbo started developing cracks when the former allegedly pitched a tent of dalliance with popular Yoruba actress, Bisi Ibidapo-Obe better addressed as Omo logbalogba. The unholy affair eventually produced a beautiful girl, Destiny Abayomi, named after Melaye.
All this period, the vibrant activist and the gorgeous thespian were at loggerheads, engaging each other in verbal and media war over the paternity of the child. While Ibidapo-Obe insisted that Melaye is the biological father of Destiny, the Kogi born anti-corruption crusader and his wife, Tokunbo kept fighting back via the internet, labeling the pretty role interpreter a blatant liar and home breaker.
However, months later, things took a dramatic turn when Melaye was said to be flaunting a new lover, Alero Falope, niece to popular society big-wig, Daisy Danjuma. His alleged clandestine affair with the new lover was said to have informed his wife’s decision to suddenly make a u-turn and start fighting Melaye, even in public.
The messy fight was reported to have reached a climax sometime in September 2013 over her husband’s constant beating, allegedly turning her to a punching bag, domestic abuse and going as far as bringing women into their matrimonial bed, telling them his wife was dead. Tokunbo also alleged her hubby put a gun to her head and almost pulled off the trigger. All these and much more culminated into her decision to end the hitherto peaceful and juicy marriage.
However, Melaye was also reported to have celebrated the crashed union, expressing joy that he is no longer together with the mother of his three children. Not only that, he also reacted to his wife’s allegations in a statement signed by his lawyer and family friend, Toyin Akande (Esq). According to the publication by a social media network, the lawyer exonerated Melaye of all the allegations leveled against him, labeling his wife, Tokunbo, a thief, careless, shameless, unfaithful mother and wife.
The statement read in part: “It is with great sadness that this sordid situation has been brought into public domain. In an attempt to shield ‘the mother’ of his children, Dino decided to quietly file for divorce and end this turbulent union.
“Unfortunately, ‘the woman’ has gone all out with wicked lies even to her detriment, to try to disorganize and tarnish Dino’s image.
Do we start with
1 Violence: I challenge her to produce the so-called record of abuse in any police station in Nigeria where Dino was invited and his statement taken. Nothing ever took place, so nothing to report.
2 Gun to Head: Dino has no ammunition. The gun incident was the police search and report. Her intention (after accepting money from Dino’s political enemies) was to have him imprisoned under possession of illegal arms. Any reason to pin Dino down and jailed.
The woman collected bribe to frame the father of her children. The police search in her presence revealed no possession of gun and interpreted her complaints as trivial and cleared Dino of possessing any weapon or incriminating material. The report was signed by ACP, CID, FCT Command, Abuja. She claimed a gun was pointed at her in September but only reported a gun threat on October 30, 2013. Over one month after a gun threat is laughable. This took place months ago when she no longer resided in his house. She is currently facing legal charges based on defama-tion of character and false criminal accusa-tion.”
